Mari Tomita

Mari is bubbly, inexperienced and easily overwhelmed by the behavior of her students. She wants to be treated as an authority figure, but Ikki and his friends frequently ignore her instructions or draw her into situations she has little ability to control.

She is particularly anxious about sexual situations and frequently assumes that encounters with unfamiliar men may become threatening. The series repeatedly uses this paranoia as part of the comedy surrounding her.

Despite being overwhelmed, Mari continues looking after her students. She does not distance herself from Ikki's group once their activities become increasingly strange, and her concern for them regularly overrides her desire to stay out of trouble.

Mari is not a Storm Rider and has no established Road, Regalia or Air Treck combat ability. Her role is that of an ordinary adult repeatedly exposed to the extraordinary A-T world surrounding her students.

She drives a small car that becomes useful for transporting members of Ikki's group, including during the period when they travel to observe battles outside their immediate neighborhood.

Her familiarity with Higashi Junior High also predates her employment there, since she attended the school herself before becoming a teacher.

Mari provides the principal connection between Kogarasumaru's members and their ordinary school responsibilities. While the riders become increasingly involved in Parts Wars, Regalia and rival organizations, she remains responsible for them as junior-high students.

She becomes directly involved in their adventures early in the series, including driving the group during events surrounding their first encounters with Akito Wanijima and Agito Wanijima.

Her former status as a Higashi student also creates a comic reversal in her relationship with Masaya Orihara, who taught her and now reprimands her as a colleague.

Itsuki Minami is one of Mari's students and a frequent source of trouble in her homeroom. His involvement with Air Trecks repeatedly drags her beyond the boundaries of ordinary teaching.

Kazuma Mikura, Onigiri and Issa Mihotoke are among the students whose behavior makes Mari's work particularly difficult.

Masaya Orihara was Mari's teacher when she attended Higashi Junior High and remains an authority figure who regularly reprimands her after she joins the staff.

Akito Wanijima and Agito Wanijima become part of the wider group of young riders whose conflicts Mari witnesses through her association with Kogarasumaru.
