Maiko Momoma

Maiko is kind, patient, courageous, and naturally supportive. She readily helps inexperienced Choujin adjust to their abilities and is less intimidating than Simon when dealing with newcomers. She also serves as a moderating influence on her partner's serious and sometimes uncompromising approach.

Her kindness is not the absence of fear. Maiko understands that Keeper work can kill her and admits that she thinks about the possibility regularly. She continues because doing nothing while another person could be harmed frightens her as well.

Maiko has served Yamato Mori from a remarkably young age and consequently treats being both a student and Keeper as an ordinary part of life. Her years of experience later make her one of the steadier figures around Yamato Mori's younger operatives during increasingly dangerous conflicts.

As the Super Strength Choujin, Maiko can exert approximately one hundred times the muscular strength of an ordinary person. She can lift enormous objects and deliver devastating physical attacks, making her an exceptionally powerful close-range combatant.

Her fighting style draws on martial arts and professional wrestling. Because her strength can place tremendous strain on her own body, she wears specialized gloves and stockings made from power-inhibiting fabric that help regulate how much force she exerts. Like other Choujin, she can use Raise to recover from otherwise catastrophic injuries.

After intensive training, Maiko develops ways to safely access considerably greater portions of her strength. Techniques such as Power Boost: 50 let her channel enough force into individual strikes to break through massive barriers and heavily reinforced structures.

Maiko first becomes involved with Tokio and Ely during the confrontation with Nari Tsumiji, after which she helps bring the inexperienced Choujin into Yamato Mori's orbit. She subsequently assists with their training and early encounters with dangerous Choujin.

Her abilities are hereditary: Maiko's father was also a Choujin, and she began manifesting her strength when she was four. She started working as a Keeper at ten, giving her substantially more practical experience than her age initially suggests.

She also helps the newer recruits understand Raise and the realities of Choujin combat. As Yamato Mori enters larger conflicts, Maiko grows from an older peer guiding newcomers into one of the organization's dependable frontline fighters.

Simon Kagomura is Maiko's longtime friend, Keeper partner, and frequent mission companion. She understands Simon Kagomura's severe personality well and often provides the warmer counterpoint to his pragmatism.

Tokio Kurohara meets Maiko while still learning what being a Choujin means. Maiko encourages Tokio Kurohara and helps him with practical aspects of Choujin life and Keeper work.

Ely Otta becomes another younger Choujin under Maiko's informal guidance. Maiko treats Ely Otta warmly and spends time with her outside missions as well as during training.

Azuma Higashi later becomes one of Maiko's fellow Yamato Mori Keepers. Maiko also helps create the circumstances in which Azuma and Tokio can begin addressing the conflict that has developed between them.
