Loyd Lloyd

Loyd is stoic and direct in his brief appearance. He does not introduce himself or explain his power while confronting Kenpachi, instead copying the captain immediately and beginning the fight without ceremony.

His restrained behavior distinguishes him from several more theatrical Sternritter. Little is established about his personal loyalties beyond his participation in the Wandenreich’s invasion and his lifelong connection to Royd.

The Yourself allows Loyd to reproduce another person’s physical appearance, powers and learned techniques. He copies Kenpachi closely enough to present the captain with a difficult fight, suggesting that the ability reproduces a substantial portion of the target’s combat strength at the moment of copying.

The Schrift does not guarantee permanent equality. Kenpachi continually suppresses himself and unconsciously adjusts his power during battle; once he raises his effective strength beyond the level Loyd copied, the imitation can no longer keep pace.

Loyd’s power differs from Royd’s version of The Yourself. Both twins can duplicate appearances, but Loyd copies powers and techniques, whereas Royd reproduces memories and personality. Loyd also possesses the standard spiritual awareness, reishi manipulation and physical enhancements expected of a Sternritter.

Loyd enters the Seireitei with the other Sternritter during the Wandenreich’s first invasion. He joins Berenice Gabrielli and Jerome Guizbatt in confronting Kenpachi, then assumes Kenpachi’s form and abilities.

According to Kenpachi’s account, Loyd provides more resistance than the other two Sternritter. The contest ends when the captain becomes stronger than the level reflected by the copy. Kenpachi kills Loyd and later carries his body, together with those of Berenice and Jerome, to his confrontation with the apparent Yhwach.

Royd Lloyd — Loyd’s younger identical twin. The brothers began unconsciously imitating each other before birth and discovered that their powers had developed along different lines.

Kenpachi Zaraki — The captain whose appearance and combat abilities Loyd copies during the invasion of Soul Society.

Yhwach — Loyd’s emperor and the source of the Schrift designation under which he serves.

Berenice Gabrielli — A fellow Sternritter who attacks Kenpachi during the same encounter.

Jerome Guizbatt — Another Sternritter defeated alongside Loyd during Kenpachi’s advance.
