Lotton

Lotton is quiet, eccentric and relentlessly theatrical. He wants his appearances to look impressive and frequently attempts elaborate introductions even when stopping to speak in the middle of a firefight is tactically disastrous.

He does not drink alcohol because it makes him vomit, a conspicuous habit in Roanapur's bar-heavy criminal culture. His reserved speech and dramatic clothing reinforce the mysterious persona he tries to cultivate.

For all his posing, Lotton is considerate toward his companions. After the disastrous bounty hunt for Jane, he prioritizes helping the injured Shenhua and Sawyer rather than abandoning them, beginning a surprisingly durable friendship among the three freelancers.

Lotton carries two Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer pistols and is equipped for armed freelance work. His actual offensive ability is difficult to judge because his first major attempt to fight is interrupted almost immediately when Revy shoots him.

He compensates for questionable tactical instincts with excellent protective equipment and extraordinary survivability. A bulletproof vest saves him from Revy's shot, and he survives the subsequent fall from the warehouse roof.

Later appearances continue the joke that Lotton prepares more carefully than his flamboyant behavior suggests. His protective equipment allows him to survive situations in which a less cautious mercenary would be killed outright.

Lotton enters during the Greenback Jane bounty hunt as one of numerous gunmen assembled to capture the counterfeiter. He attempts a dramatic entrance when the hunters attack the Lagoon Company's position, only for Revy to shoot him before his speech can properly begin.

His apparent defeat proves less permanent than expected. After surviving the shot and fall because of his body armor, Lotton finds Shenhua badly wounded and volunteers to get her medical treatment, also ensuring that Sawyer is not left behind.

He subsequently becomes part of an informal trio with Shenhua and Sawyer. When Garcia and Fabiola Iglesias return to Roanapur searching for Roberta, the three are hired to help guide them through the increasingly dangerous conflict.

Shenhua becomes one of Lotton's closest companions after the Greenback Jane affair. Lotton helps the injured Shenhua reach medical care, and the two subsequently work together as freelancers.

Frederica Sawyer forms the third member of Lotton and Shenhua's informal team. Lotton frequently spends time with Frederica Sawyer at Shenhua's home and fights alongside her on later jobs.

Revy provides Lotton with one of his least successful introductions. She shoots Lotton while he is attempting to announce himself during the Greenback Jane bounty hunt, although his protective vest saves him.

Greenback Jane is the target whose bounty first brings Lotton into the main story. Unlike some of the other hunters pursuing Greenback Jane, Lotton survives the resulting battle.
