Kyoko Kasuga

Kasuga is kind, diligent and strongly devoted to Makina. Makina describes her as both brilliant and silly, reflecting the contrast between Kasuga's competence as an assistant and the comic reactions she sometimes displays.

Her loyalty is more than professional obedience. She admires Makina intensely and is willing to participate when her superior begins investigating matters that the prison administration has deliberately placed outside their authority.

Kasuga is an ordinary human and has no Branch of Sin. Her skills come from her work as a trained Deadman Wonderland guard and from the practical experience required to assist its chief guard.

She is useful primarily as an investigator and support officer rather than as one of the series' major combatants. Her access to prison systems and willingness to help Makina investigate classified material become more important than direct fighting ability.

Kasuga appears with Makina during the processing of new prisoners and remains her assistant as irregularities inside Deadman Wonderland become harder to ignore.

She accompanies Makina while investigating Tsunenaga Tamaki and the restricted areas of the prison. After Makina moves openly against Tamaki's operations, Kasuga remains with her as part of the force assembled to uncover and oppose the prison's secret projects.

Kasuga's earlier life also connects her coincidentally to other people later imprisoned at Deadman Wonderland: she attended school alongside Bundō Rokuro, with Idaki Hitara as their teacher.

Kiwako Flügel Makina is Kasuga's superior and the person she most openly admires. Their mutual trust allows Makina to involve her in investigations that could jeopardize both of their positions.

Bundō Rokuro attended school with Kasuga before either became involved with Deadman Wonderland.

Idaki Hitara taught Kasuga and Bundō during their school years.

Tsunenaga Tamaki becomes the focus of the classified investigation Kasuga conducts alongside Makina.
