Kumo

Kumo is cautious and sufficiently observant to recognize when a pursuit may be going wrong. He reports suspicious movement to Snake rather than simply assuming the other Guests have correctly identified their target.

Like the other mercenaries, however, he operates within a rough armed culture and is prepared to use force when carrying out his duties.

The manga gives little additional individual characterization, so his strongest identifiable trait is his participation as a dependable member of Snake's guard unit.

Kumo is an experienced armed mercenary capable of patrol work, tracking fugitives, guarding property, and participating in organized pursuit.

He is not portrayed as being on Snake's exceptional level of swordsmanship and possesses no named technique.

His value to the Guests comes through ordinary professional fighting experience and teamwork.

Kumo appears during the crisis surrounding Gardar, the escaped slave who reaches Ketil's estate searching for Arnheid.

After Gardar is wounded and secretly concealed at Sverkell's home, Snake and the Guests try to use Arnheid as bait while watching for him.

Kumo reports seeing what appears to be Gardar running toward the woods.

The figure is actually Einar wearing a cloak as part of Thorfinn and Arnheid's plan to lure the guards away. Snake quickly realizes that the runner is moving too well to be the severely wounded Gardar and breaks away from the pursuit, but orders Kumo and Badger to continue following the decoy.

Kumo later remains with the farm's guards as preparations are made for Canute's approaching army.

Snake is Kumo's commander and directs the Guests during the pursuit of Gardar.

Ketil employs Kumo and the other Guests as security for his estate.

Anaguma is a fellow Guest who participates with Kumo in the pursuit of the disguised Einar.

Gardar is the escaped slave the Guests are attempting to locate.

Einar deceives Kumo by posing as Gardar and running into the forest to draw the guards away.

Arnheid is used by the Guests as bait because they expect Gardar to return for his wife.
