Kazumasa Kouzuji

Kouzuji is aggressive, arrogant and accustomed to using his physical superiority to dominate other people. He picks on prisoners who appear unable to fight back and expects those around him to accommodate his temper.

His behavior toward Ganta and Shiro demonstrates the same entitlement that characterized his life before imprisonment. In the anime, his conviction is linked to an assault on an actress who refused to give him her contact information.

Kouzuji is an experienced mixed martial artist and former champion. His large frame gives him considerable physical strength even without supernatural enhancement.

He has no Branch of Sin and is not a Deadman. His combat ability therefore remains grounded in martial arts training and ordinary human strength.

Kouzuji encounters Ganta in the prison cafeteria, where he is already intimidating another inmate. Ganta's interactions with him help establish the violence that exists even outside Deadman Wonderland's hidden experiments.

He appears again around the Dog Race attraction and threatens Shiro, provoking Ganta despite the obvious difference in their physical strength. Kiwako Flügel Makina intervenes before their confrontation can develop further.

The anime expands his role during the Dog Race. Kouzuji participates directly in the lethal event and is killed during it, whereas his manga counterpart survives beyond this point.

Ganta Igarashi encounters Kouzuji repeatedly during his first days in Deadman Wonderland and refuses to tolerate his bullying.

Shiro is threatened by Kouzuji during the events surrounding the Dog Race.

Kiwako Flügel Makina stops Kouzuji when his confrontation with Ganta threatens to become violent.
