Kahei Hashida

Kahei is authoritarian, proud and deeply attached to the continuation of the Hashida family. He treats succession as an obligation and initially gives little consideration to whether Kanshichirou Hashida might eventually want a different life.

His behavior toward Fusa can be severe, particularly because he sees her resistance as a threat to the future of his family and company. His wealth and status have accustomed him to having orders obeyed.

Beneath that rigidity is genuine grief and attachment to his family. Memories of his wife and Kantarou Hashida eventually force him to examine whether his efforts to preserve the Hashida legacy are repeating mistakes he made with his son.

Kahei has no established supernatural powers or notable personal combat style.

His power comes from wealth, social influence and the personnel employed by the Hashida Company. He can dispatch numerous armed men and hire dangerous specialists to recover Kanshichirou.

Among those working for him is Okada Nizou, whose swordsmanship makes the attempt to recover the infant considerably more dangerous for the Yorozuya.

Kahei enters the Infant Strife Arc searching for Fusa and his grandson. He insists that Kanshichirou belongs with the Hashida household because the child is the remaining successor to his business empire.

His men pursue Gintoki after discovering that he has the baby, while Kahei's organization detains Fusa in an attempt to learn Kanshichirou's location.

Fusa reveals the history of Kantarou, explaining how Kahei separated the sick young man from her after learning that she was pregnant. Kantarou subsequently died, leaving Kanshichirou as his child and the family's remaining heir.

After Fusa confronts Kahei about Kantarou's feelings and reminds him of his own late wife, Kahei recognizes the harm caused by imposing his wishes on his family and returns Kanshichirou to his mother.

Kantarou Hashida is Kahei's son and originally the intended successor to the Hashida Company.

Kanshichirou Hashida is Kahei's grandson, whom he wants to raise as the next Hashida heir.

Fusa is the mother of Kahei's grandson and his principal opponent in the dispute over the child's future.

Okada Nizou works for Kahei during the attempt to recover Kanshichirou.

Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi, Kagura and Taizou Hasegawa help Fusa resist Kahei's efforts to take the child.
