Fusa

Fusa is stubborn, protective and willing to endure considerable hardship for Kanshichirou Hashida. When confronted by the Hashida household, she refuses to surrender information that would allow them to take her son.

Her determination comes from a strong belief that Kanshichirou should be allowed to choose his own life rather than being treated merely as an heir. She has already seen how the expectations of the Hashida family affected Kantarou Hashida, and she refuses to let the same future be imposed automatically on their child.

She is also deeply loyal to Kantarou, remembering their time together even after circumstances separate them.

Fusa has no supernatural powers or established combat training.

Her strengths are endurance and resolve. She resists intimidation from the wealthy Hashida family despite lacking the physical power to defeat their hired men herself.

As Kantarou's former caretaker, she also has experience looking after someone with chronic illness and later raises Kanshichirou as a single mother.

Fusa is initially seen leaving Kanshichirou outside the Yorozuya. Because the baby's silver perm resembles Sakata Gintoki, the note creates the mistaken impression that Gintoki may be his father.

The arrival of Kahei Hashida reveals that Kanshichirou is connected to one of Edo's wealthiest families. Fusa refuses to allow Kahei to take the boy simply because the family requires an heir.

Fusa explains that she once cared for Kantarou, fell in love with him and left the Hashida estate with him. After his illness worsened, Kahei separated them, and Kantarou died before he could raise their son.

With help from Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi, Kagura and Taizou Hasegawa, Fusa confronts Kahei over the future of her child.

Kanshichirou Hashida is Fusa's son and the person she is determined to protect from having the Hashida Company's future imposed upon him.

Kantarou Hashida is Fusa's former charge and lover. Their relationship produces Kanshichirou, but Kantarou dies before he can raise their child.

Kahei Hashida is Kantarou's father and Fusa's principal opponent during the dispute over Kanshichirou.

Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi, Kagura and Taizou Hasegawa help Fusa resist the Hashida family's attempt to take her son.
