Personality
Personality
Johnny is cheerful, sensitive and deeply attached to his colleagues. He reacts openly to both joy and grief, making him one of the more emotionally transparent members of the Science Section.
His friendship with Allen Walker becomes especially important. Johnny refuses to reduce Allen to his Innocence or the threat associated with his changing condition, remembering instead the person who lived and worked beside him at headquarters.
Johnny can be frightened by combat, but fear does not stop him once a friend needs help. His courage is therefore markedly different from that of an Exorcist: he repeatedly enters supernatural danger without possessing an Anti-Akuma weapon.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Johnny is a scientist and has no Innocence. His expertise lies in Black Order technology, research and equipment, developed through his work in the Science Section.
He is capable of field support and practical problem-solving despite lacking supernatural powers. His scientific background becomes increasingly useful when circumstances force him to operate away from headquarters.
Johnny's greatest limitation is physical vulnerability. Against Akuma, Noah or other supernatural opponents, he has none of the protections available to an Exorcist.
Story Role
Story Role
Johnny initially appears as one of the recurring scientists working under Reever Wenhamm and Komui Lee. His role helps establish the community surrounding the Exorcists between missions.
He survives several attacks on headquarters and becomes increasingly involved in Allen's personal circumstances as Central places the young Exorcist under tighter surveillance.
After Allen leaves the Black Order, Johnny chooses his friendship over the security of remaining at headquarters. He leaves to search for Allen and eventually travels alongside him, becoming one of the most important ordinary-human companions in Allen's later journey.
Relationships
Relationships
Allen Walker is one of Johnny's closest friends. Johnny ultimately leaves the Black Order to find Allen after Allen becomes a fugitive, choosing personal loyalty over institutional obedience.
Reever Wenhamm is Johnny's section chief and longtime superior. Their shared experiences during attacks on headquarters create a strong bond among the surviving scientists.
Komui Lee oversees the Science Section and is another senior figure Johnny trusts.
Tapp Dopp is Johnny's fellow scientist and friend. Tapp's fate during the Third Exorcist crisis has a profound emotional effect on Johnny.
Kanda Yu later accompanies Johnny during the search for Allen, despite the enormous differences in their personalities and combat ability.
