Ingway

Ingway is calm and deliberate for a hostage taker, rarely displaying the uncontrolled aggression associated with some of his accomplices. His actions are driven by resentment rather than simple greed, and he remains focused on confronting the man he holds responsible for his family's suffering.

He initially appears willing to use Stefany and other civilians as leverage. As the confrontation develops, however, his behavior reveals limits to the vengeance he is prepared to carry out.

Ingway is an ordinary human with experience using firearms. He carries a handgun and is confident enough in his marksmanship to demand a direct gun duel rather than relying solely on his gang.

He also leads several armed men, including Gene, Denim and Marvin. His planning allows the group to seize hostages and force the authorities and Bostok to respond on his terms.

Ingway's gang takes Stefany Bostok hostage along with other people caught in the saloon, including Vash the Stampede. The kidnapping initially appears to be motivated by ransom.

Ingway reveals that Bostok and his associates seized land that Ingway's parents and other settlers had spent years cultivating, killing the original residents. His real objective is therefore a duel with the man responsible for his family's destruction.

The outcome differs between versions. In the Trigun pilot, Ingway fatally shoots Bostok. The 1998 anime changes the conclusion: Ingway deliberately shoots Bostok in the shoulder rather than killing him, although he pretends afterward that he simply missed.

Stefany Bostok is the daughter Ingway takes hostage to force her father into confronting him.

Dick Bostok is Ingway's true target. Ingway seeks revenge because Bostok's group stole the settlers' land and killed Ingway's parents.

Vash the Stampede becomes one of Ingway's hostages after wandering into the situation. Vash is deeply relieved when the anime version of Ingway chooses not to kill Bostok.

Gene, Denim and Marvin are members of Ingway's gang who participate in the hostage taking.
