Hiroshi Morishige

Morishige is confident, intimidating and largely unimpressed by the attention surrounding his strength. On court, he enjoys demonstrating his physical superiority and has a habit of remaining on the rim after powerful dunks while looking down at opponents who have fallen beneath him.

That behavior sometimes crosses into unnecessary showmanship and earns him technical fouls. His coach recognizes both his extraordinary value and the disciplinary problem created by his tendency to celebrate dominance too long.

Off the court, Morishige is considerably less expressive than Sakuragi or Kiyota. His physical presence tends to make the impression for him, and his limited appearances leave much of his personality deliberately understated.

Morishige's greatest weapon is his extraordinary combination of size, strength and explosive power. At 199 cm and roughly 100 kg, he can overwhelm multiple defenders around the basket and finish through heavy physical contact.

His dunks are especially destructive. Opponents attempting to stop him can be knocked backward by the force of his drive, and he possesses enough athleticism to convert his size into vertical power rather than functioning merely as a stationary center.

Morishige is also an exceptional rebounder and shot-blocker. At the national tournament, he records 50 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocks in Meihou's 102–56 victory over Jousei, demonstrating that his dominance extends across both ends of the court.

His weakness is discipline. Hanging from the rim and intimidating fallen opponents can result in technical fouls, while his confidence occasionally makes him more interested in displaying superiority than maintaining conventional restraint.

Morishige is introduced when Maki and Kiyota travel to Aichi to scout national-level competition and Sakuragi accompanies them. Aichi's established star Dai Moroboshi initially appears to be the obvious player to watch, but Morishige's emergence changes the tournament's balance.

His overwhelming physical ability immediately fascinates Sakuragi, who instinctively treats other exceptional rebounders and power players as personal competition. Morishige consequently becomes an example of how much stronger the opposition becomes beyond Kanagawa.

Meihou defeats Aiwa in the prefectural competition and advances to the Inter-High. At nationals, Morishige produces a dominant performance against Jousei, scoring 50 points while collecting 22 rebounds and blocking 10 shots in a 102–56 victory.

The manga does not give Shohoku a direct match against Meihou, leaving a potential Sakuragi-Morishige confrontation unresolved.

Hanamichi Sakuragi immediately treats Morishige as a physical benchmark and potential rival after seeing him in Aichi.

Shinichi Maki travels to Aichi to assess potential national opponents and recognizes the threat posed by Morishige.

Kiyota Nobunaga accompanies Maki and likewise witnesses Morishige's emergence.

Dai Moroboshi is Aiwa's established star and one of the major players standing between Meihou and Aichi's top position. Morishige's impact helps Meihou overcome Moroboshi's Aiwa team in the prefectural competition.
