Gonryoumaru

Gonryōmaru speaks formally, frequently addressing others with the honorific “-dono.” He is far more talkative than Tenken and often explains his companion’s thoughts or behavior.

Under Muramasa’s influence, he complains that Chōjirō Sasakibe never distinguished himself despite possessing considerable power. He is sensitive to insults about his or Tenken’s strength and can be provoked into acting rashly. After the brainwashing ends, he becomes more disciplined and concentrates on defeating the Tōjū rather than exchanging taunts.

Gonryōmaru possesses substantial spiritual power and can contend with captain-level opponents when fighting beside Tenken. His primary ability is lightning manipulation. Rain and storm clouds strengthen his attacks, allowing him to call down repeated bolts across a wide area.

His manifested weapon resembles Gonryōmaru’s Shikai: a rapier-like blade with an elaborate guard. He can channel electricity through it, fire lightning directly at an opponent, and generate storms without relying on naturally occurring weather.

Gonryōmaru is also an agile swordsman. He withstands battles against Suì-Fēng and Kenpachi Zaraki, although Suì-Fēng’s Shunkō eventually overwhelms his lightning.

Muramasa forcibly materializes Gonryōmaru and turns him against the Gotei 13. He fights Rukia and later joins Tenken against Suì-Fēng. When Kenpachi enters the cavern holding the rebel spirits, the pair occupy him while the other Shinigami proceed toward the imprisoned Captain-Commander.

Yachiru Kusajishi realizes that both spirits are deliberately fighting defensively. Kenpachi disables Gonryōmaru to stop Tenken from holding back out of concern for him.

After Muramasa’s defeat, Gonryōmaru assists in hunting the masterless Tōjū. In the final confrontation with Kirikaze, he summons lightning and contributes his remaining spiritual energy to Renji Abarai. Once the force sustaining the materialized spirits expires, Gonryōmaru permanently returns to sword form.

Chōjirō Sasakibe is Gonryōmaru’s master. Muramasa’s influence magnifies the spirit’s frustration with Sasakibe’s inconspicuous public role.

Tenken is his closest companion among the manifested spirits. Gonryōmaru speaks on Tenken’s behalf, addresses him respectfully, and worries about him during battle.

Muramasa materializes and manipulates Gonryōmaru. Suì-Fēng and Kenpachi Zaraki are his principal opponents during the rebellion, while Renji Abarai receives his aid against Kirikaze.
