Elfman Strauss

Elfman is loud, passionate, sentimental, and obsessed with proving his masculinity. He frequently describes courage, loyalty, endurance, and even mundane behavior as things a "real man" should do, turning the word into a personal philosophy rather than merely a reference to gender.

Beneath the bravado, he is sensitive and prone to tears. Elfman cares deeply about his sisters and guildmates, and insults directed at his friends can provoke him more strongly than attacks against himself.

His exaggerated masculine behavior partly develops from insecurity. Earlier in life he was much more timid, and the catastrophe associated with his full-body Take Over leaves him frightened of losing control again.

Elfman's Take Over magic is Beast Soul. By taking over creatures whose forms he has absorbed, he can transform individual body parts or his entire body and use the associated physical and magical abilities.

His early signature is Beast Arm, which transforms his right arm into the limb of a powerful monster and greatly increases striking power. As his confidence returns, Elfman regains full-body transformations such as Beast Soul and later acquires additional forms adapted for strength, defense, or particular opponents.

Even without magic, Elfman's muscular build gives him considerable physical power. Full Beast Soul transformations amplify that strength dramatically and allow him to battle opponents well beyond ordinary guild mages.

Elfman initially appears as one of Fairy Tail's physically strongest regular members but avoids his most dangerous Take Over ability because of a traumatic incident from his past.

During the Phantom Lord conflict, Elfman is forced to confront that fear while fighting Sol. Protecting his sister Mirajane becomes more important than avoiding the memory of what happened, enabling him to complete a full-body Take Over again.

Years earlier, Elfman had attempted Beast Soul during a mission with Mirajane and Lisanna. He lost control and struck Lisanna, after which he believed she had died. The guilt crippled his ability to use full Take Over until the Phantom Lord battle. Lisanna had actually been transported to Edolas and later returns.

Elfman subsequently participates in the S-Class Promotion Trial on Tenrou Island and becomes a dependable frontline fighter in Fairy Tail's wars against Grimoire Heart, Tartaros, the Alvarez Empire, and other threats.

Mirajane Strauss is Elfman's older sister and one of the most important people in his life. She supports him through his fear of Take Over and fights ferociously when he is endangered.

Lisanna Strauss is Elfman's younger sister. His belief that he accidentally killed her leaves him traumatized for years, making their eventual reunion particularly significant.

Evergreen develops a close, frequently argumentative bond with Elfman. Their partnership during the Tenrou Island trial begins a recurring relationship marked by mutual concern beneath constant bickering.

Makarov Dreyar is Elfman's guild master and recognizes him as one of Fairy Tail's capable combat mages.
