Bonebeard

Bonebeard is aggressive, boastful and accustomed to maintaining authority through intimidation. He threatens disobedient crew members and attempts to project the image of a hardened pirate captain.

His bravado is repeatedly undermined by cowardice and bad luck. He becomes highly emotional when events turn against him and is sometimes mocked even by his own subordinates.

Despite the comic aspects of his behavior, Bonebeard participates in slavery and is willing to kill children and other opponents who interfere with his operations. His lighter moments do not erase the brutality of his occupation.

Bonebeard is an experienced swordsman and shipboard fighter. He is particularly comfortable fighting on unstable decks where less experienced opponents struggle with their footing.

Although he uses a crutch and has a peg leg, the disability conceals an additional weapon: a hidden blade inside the artificial leg that he can deploy unexpectedly.

His most significant assets are normally his ship and crew rather than individual combat power.

Bonebeard first appears at Vritannis while involved in the trafficking of Kushan children. Isidro, Schierke and Mule Wolflame interfere, leading to a fight that ends badly for his crew.

He later attacks the Seahorse after returning to piracy, but Roderick's superior naval command forces the Captain Sharkrider to retreat.

After the Great Wave of the Astral World, Bonebeard and his crew encounter the Sea God and are absorbed into its supernatural organism. They subsequently reappear aboard a ghostly Captain Sharkrider as extensions of the creature.

Bonebeard attacks the Seahorse repeatedly under the Sea God's influence. His transformed existence ends when Guts destroys the Sea God.

Isidro becomes one of Bonebeard's recurring enemies after fighting him at Vritannis.

Roderick repeatedly defeats Bonebeard in naval engagements between the Seahorse and Captain Sharkrider.

Schierke becomes his enemy after intervening in the Kushan child slave trade.

Mule Wolflame fights Bonebeard's group alongside Isidro and Schierke at Vritannis.

Azan helps defeat Bonebeard's pirates during the initial confrontation.

Guts fights the supernatural creatures controlled through Bonebeard and ultimately destroys the Sea God to which Bonebeard's crew has become attached.
