Bondrewd

Bondrewd is courteous, patient and consumed by scientific curiosity. He rarely expresses anger even while fighting and praises ingenuity in opponents who are actively trying to defeat him. Knowledge matters to him more than ordinary moral limits, and he treats suffering as an acceptable cost when it produces useful information.

His capacity for affection makes his behavior more disturbing rather than less. Bondrewd remembers the names, personalities and aspirations of children used in his research. He does not need to dehumanize his subjects before sacrificing them; his conception of love and his willingness to experiment on someone can coexist.

Bondrewd is also focused on preparing for the mysterious 2,000-year cycle affecting the Abyss. His experiments are therefore not conducted merely for curiosity, although the exact nature of the approaching phenomenon remains unclear.

Bondrewd possesses an enormous collection of Relics. His equipment includes Far Caress, a set of tendril-like appendages; Sparagmos, a weapon capable of producing destructive beams similar in principle to Reg's Incinerator; and other artifacts incorporated into the specialized bodies used for combat.

His White Whistle can activate the latent power of Relics. He is also an accomplished researcher whose work includes drugs, Curse experiments, cartridges and methods for navigating deeper portions of the Abyss.

The Special Grade Relic Zoaholic allows Bondrewd to implant his consciousness into other people. Members of the Umbra Hands can therefore function as extensions or replacement bodies for him, making killing a single physical Bondrewd insufficient to eliminate his consciousness.

His cartridge system redirects the Curse of ascension into human packages carried on his body. By using Prushka, whose genuine love for him fulfills additional conditions, Bondrewd receives the Blessing of the Abyss while Prushka bears the Curse.

Bondrewd's influence reaches the protagonists before they meet him. Nanachi and Mitty's history establishes Ido Front as the site of experiments that transformed both children, while Bondrewd's research explains some of the most advanced knowledge available about the Curse.

Riko's group must pass through Ido Front to reach the Sixth Layer. Bondrewd welcomes them politely, but his interest in Reg's unprecedented body and the travelers' determination to continue downward place the two sides into conflict.

Bondrewd dismantles Reg's arm for research and uses Prushka as the final cartridge needed for his attempt to obtain the Blessing. Reg eventually defeats his primary combat body, but Bondrewd's consciousness survives through the Umbra Hands.

After acknowledging the group's victory, he allows them to continue their Last Dive rather than pursuing further conflict, treating their journey itself as another aspiration worth observing.

Prushka is Bondrewd's adoptive daughter and genuinely loves him. Bondrewd deliberately develops their bond until she can function as the cartridge that grants him the Blessing, even while his affection for her appears genuine within his profoundly distorted worldview.

Nanachi once admired Bondrewd and later worked under him after being transformed. His experiments on Nanachi and Mitty turn that admiration into fear and hatred.

Mitty is transformed during Bondrewd's Curse experiment and subsequently subjected to further experiments because her new body cannot be killed by conventional means.

Reg fascinates Bondrewd as an unprecedented artifact-like being. Bondrewd studies his body and battles him when the group attempts to pass Ido Front.

Riko opposes Bondrewd's methods but must ultimately overcome the obstacle he presents in order to continue into the Sixth Layer.
