Biera

Biera is caring, self-sacrificing, and deeply protective of Adelle. He tolerates Gasparde's abuse because remaining aboard gives him the best chance of keeping her safe.

He also possesses considerable courage and is willing to place himself in danger once an opportunity arises to undermine Gasparde.

Biera is an experienced engineer and boiler stoker with intimate knowledge of the Salamander's machinery.

He is not a notable fighter, but his technical knowledge allows him to threaten the ship itself in a way conventional combat cannot.

Biera works below deck throughout the Dead End Race while Adelle attempts to improve their situation.

During the final conflict, Biera deliberately overloads the Salamander's boiler in an attempt to destroy Gasparde's ship. He survives and later reveals Adelle's true identity to Shuraiya.

Adelle Bascud is Biera's adopted granddaughter figure, whom he rescued and raised.
