Ayame is shy, gentle and far less outspoken than Shun’ou or Tsubaki. She seldom acts independently in the narrative, instead responding to Orihime’s summons and working silently with her partner.

Ayame and Shun’ou create Sōten Kisshun, a half-oval barrier surrounding a target. The technique does not heal through ordinary medicine; it rejects events that occurred within the barrier and restores the target toward an earlier, undamaged state.
Its effectiveness depends on Orihime’s spiritual power, concentration and conviction. It can reconstruct destroyed tissue and lost limbs, but sufficiently overwhelming forces or uncertainty can slow or prevent the rejection.

Ayame awakens with the other Shun Shun Rikka when Orihime Inoue desperately wishes to protect Tatsuki from Numb Chandelier. Shun’ou explains their power while Ayame helps restore Tatsuki’s injured body.
She subsequently participates whenever Orihime treats wounded allies, from the Soul Society infiltration through the wars in Hueco Mundo and against the Wandenreich.
