Arisa Uotani

Arisa is brash, direct and physically intimidating, but considerably more emotionally sensitive than her delinquent image suggests. She speaks bluntly and readily confronts anyone she believes is mistreating a friend.

Her loyalty to Tooru is intense. Arisa understands that Tooru's kindness can make her neglect her own needs, so she and Saki frequently act as protective barriers around her.

Arisa also retains empathy for younger delinquents because she remembers why that life appealed to her. Rather than simply condemning them, she recognizes the loneliness and anger that can sit beneath aggressive behavior.

Arisa has no supernatural abilities. Her delinquent background makes her an experienced street fighter who is comfortable facing larger or more numerous opponents.

She is athletic and physically confident, with enough stamina and strength to intimidate classmates who do not know her well.

Her greatest practical strength is her willingness to intervene. Whether facing school bullies or former gang associates, Arisa rarely hesitates when someone she cares about needs support.

Arisa's past explains how Tooru's friendship group formed. She begins as a lonely delinquent fascinated by the legend of the Crimson Butterfly and is stunned to discover that Kyoko has become an ordinary working mother.

Kyoko helps Arisa understand that leaving her gang does not make her weak. After a violent break with that life, Arisa becomes close to Tooru and Saki and carries Kyoko's influence forward.

Her later storyline introduces Kureno Souma, an unusually sheltered older man she encounters while working. Arisa falls in love with Kureno despite their brief meetings and long separation, while Kureno reciprocates those feelings but initially refuses to leave Akito.

Tooru Honda is one of Arisa's closest friends. Arisa treats Tooru Honda almost like family and is fiercely protective of her.

Kyoko Honda begins as Arisa's delinquent idol and becomes a mentor-like figure. Kyoko Honda's example helps Arisa abandon gang life and rebuild her relationship with the wider world.

Saki Hanajima is Arisa's other closest friend. The two have very different temperaments but share an instinct to protect Tooru.

Kureno Souma captures Arisa's interest after a chance meeting. Their mutual attraction survives a long separation created by Kureno's decision to remain with Akito.

Kyou Souma frequently trades insults and arguments with Arisa, but she recognizes that he genuinely cares about Tooru. Once Kyou and Tooru acknowledge their feelings, Arisa entrusts Tooru's happiness to him despite continuing to tease him.
