Edgar Chang Martin

Edgar is gentle, emotional and somewhat timid, particularly around Tui Chang. Their marriage was arranged before either was born, but Edgar genuinely fell in love with her and remains openly devoted to her.

He is awkward around children yet develops sincere concern for Alma Karma and Yu Kanda. He attempts to comfort them and worries when their strange memories and physical symptoms worsen.

That affection makes the consequences of the Second Exorcist Program especially painful for Edgar. He recognizes that caring about the children does not absolve the researchers who created and deceived them.

Edgar is a scientist rather than an Exorcist and possesses no known Innocence. His expertise contributes to the Asian Branch's experimental research.

As a member of the Chang family, he descends from one of the magical bloodlines connected to the foundation of the Black Order, although his own role is primarily scientific rather than combat-oriented.

He works directly on the Second Exorcist Program, monitoring the artificial bodies and the physical and psychological condition of its subjects.

Edgar appears through the history of the Second Exorcist Program. Working beneath Tui, he helps supervise the laboratory in which Alma and Kanda are raised.

He treats the two children more warmly than their circumstances might suggest, providing clothes, attempting explanations when they ask difficult questions and worrying about their health.

Edgar nevertheless participates in a program that implanted the brains of deceased Exorcists into artificial bodies. When Alma learns the truth, Edgar is forced to confront the fact that kindness within the laboratory could not erase what the researchers had done.

Tui Chang is Edgar's wife, superior and lifelong intended partner. Their marriage was arranged before birth, but Edgar sincerely loves her.

Bak Chang is Edgar and Tui's son.

Alma Karma and Yu Kanda are the artificial children Edgar helps supervise. He grows genuinely fond of them despite being one of the researchers participating in the experiment responsible for their suffering.
