Yusaku Kudo

Yusaku is composed, analytical, cultured, and quietly playful. Unlike Shinichi, who can become visibly excited when confronting an intricate mystery, Yusaku usually maintains an understated demeanor even after identifying the solution.

He enjoys testing his son's reasoning and occasionally participates in elaborate pranks devised with Yukiko. These games can frustrate Shinichi, but they also demonstrate Yusaku's confidence in his son's ability to handle unusual situations.

As a parent, Yusaku respects Shinichi's independence more than might be expected given the dangers surrounding him. He offers assistance and advice without routinely forcing his son to abandon his own decisions.

Yusaku possesses exceptional deductive reasoning, observation, memory, and broad academic knowledge. He can reconstruct crimes from limited evidence and has repeatedly solved cases more quickly than Shinichi.

His understanding of criminal psychology is particularly strong. Yusaku often recognizes not only how a crime occurred but why a suspect behaved in a particular manner, allowing him to anticipate developments before other investigators.

He is also an internationally successful author. His Night Baron series is famous enough for its fictional villain to inspire events, software, and references throughout the series.

Yusaku first appears after Conan encounters a mysterious woman claiming to be his mother. The situation develops into an elaborate scenario involving Yukiko and Yusaku designed to test how Shinichi is coping with his transformed body.

Yusaku and Yukiko already know that Conan is Shinichi and offer to take him abroad, where they believe they can protect him from the Black Organization. Shinichi refuses because he wants to pursue the Organization himself.

Yusaku later returns for cases requiring unusually advanced deductions and increasingly contributes to strategies concerning the Black Organization. His intelligence becomes particularly important when Conan's family and allies construct elaborate deceptions intended to mislead the Organization and its investigators.

Shinichi Kudo is Yusaku's son and inherited much of his deductive talent. Yusaku frequently challenges Shinichi Kudo intellectually while remaining supportive of his detective career.

Yukiko Kudo is Yusaku's wife. Their marriage combines Yusaku's reserved intelligence with Yukiko Kudo's theatrical personality, and the two frequently cooperate in elaborate plans.

Juzo Megure has known Yusaku for years and has benefited from his assistance on difficult investigations.

Toichi Kuroba is revealed in later material to be Yusaku's older twin brother, making the Kudo and Kuroba families directly related.
