Yuichi Shibata

Yuichi is frightened by Shrieker but remains polite, caring and deeply concerned about anyone placed in danger because of him. He initially withholds the full truth about the parakeet's curse, fearing that those who help him will become further targets.

He carries intense guilt over his mother's death and the human killer's fatal fall, even though he was a small child acting in panic. Shrieker exploits that guilt by offering false hope that surviving inside the parakeet will restore his mother.

Once protected by Chad and Ichigo, Yuichi shows growing trust and courage. His priority is not revenge but escaping the cycle of violence and finding his family again.

Yuichi has no combat abilities. As a Plus bound to a parakeet, he can speak through the animal and communicate with spiritually aware humans, though ordinary people generally perceive only the bird's behavior.

His memories can produce spiritual impressions strong enough to affect sensitive individuals. Karin Kurosaki receives images connected to Yuichi's past when she comes into contact with the parakeet, helping reveal the source of his fear.

After being released from the bird, Yuichi can move as an ordinary soul. Rukia Kuchiki performs Konsō to send him safely to Soul Society.

Yuichi's mother is murdered by a serial killer who later dies after the child grabs at his shoelaces while trying to stop him from escaping. The killer becomes Shrieker, a Hollow that torments Yuichi by placing his soul in a parakeet and promising to revive his mother if he can evade capture for three months.

Shrieker repeatedly kills people who take possession of the bird. Chad nevertheless protects Yuichi despite being unable to see the attacking Hollow clearly, relying on extraordinary endurance and his awareness of the child's fear.

Ichigo Kurosaki defeats Shrieker, while the gates of Hell claim the Hollow for crimes committed while human. Yuichi receives Konsō and later reappears in Rukongai, where he recognizes Chad during the group's entrance into Soul Society.

Yasutora Sado is Yuichi's principal protector. Chad repeatedly risks his life for the child and refuses to abandon the parakeet even when Shrieker's attacks become increasingly dangerous.

Ichigo Kurosaki defeats Shrieker and frees Yuichi from the Hollow's game. Rukia Kuchiki then sends his soul to Soul Society through Konsō.

Karin Kurosaki perceives Yuichi's memories through her spiritual sensitivity and helps expose the tragedy attached to the parakeet.

Shrieker murdered Yuichi's mother as a human and continued tormenting the child after becoming a Hollow. His false promise to restore her keeps Yuichi trapped until Ichigo intervenes.
