Yashamaru

Yashamaru appears gentle, patient, nurturing, and unusually understanding of Gaara's emotional isolation. He treats the boy's injuries and explains concepts such as physical pain, emotional wounds, and love in terms Gaara can understand.

Unlike most villagers, he does not initially react to Gaara solely as Shukaku's jinchuriki. His willingness to spend time with him makes Yashamaru the closest thing Gaara has to a conventional parental figure.

Yashamaru is also a disciplined Sunagakure shinobi who follows orders from the Kazekage even when those orders conflict disastrously with his relationship with Gaara.

His complicated feelings toward Karura's fate and Gaara's birth become central to the way Gaara remembers him.

Yashamaru is a medical-nin, possessing enough medical training to treat Gaara after injuries and monitor his physical condition.

He also serves as an ANBU-level operative of Sunagakure, indicating advanced shinobi abilities beyond medical support.

His known techniques include Manipulating Attack Blades, in which he controls multiple bladed weapons through chakra threads or similar manipulation.

He also uses an explosive self-sacrifice attack known as Heavenly Punishment during his confrontation with Gaara.

Yashamaru appears through Gaara's memories of childhood. Because Shukaku has been sealed within Gaara and the village fears the boy's unstable power, Gaara grows up isolated from ordinary social relationships.

Yashamaru remains near him as caretaker and explains that emotional pain is different from physical wounds. He tells Gaara that love is the medicine capable of healing the heart.

Gaara consequently comes to believe that Yashamaru loves him and associates that affection with his mother's memory.

Rasa, however, remains concerned that Gaara cannot control Shukaku safely and decides to test his emotional stability.

Rasa orders Yashamaru to attack Gaara and tell him that Karura never loved him. Yashamaru follows the order, claiming that he himself secretly hated Gaara for causing his sister's death.

Yashamaru then attempts a suicide bombing, but Gaara survives through his sand defense. Believing the lies he has just been told, Gaara concludes that nobody has ever loved him and begins defining himself through self-love and killing.

Much later, during the Fourth Shinobi World War, Rasa tells Gaara that Yashamaru's statements were false and that Karura truly loved him.

Karura is Yashamaru's older sister. His complicated grief surrounding Karura's fate shapes his involvement in Gaara's childhood.
