Xerx Lugner

Xerx maintains the outward appearance of a dignified, virtuous Magic Knight and reacts angrily when his squad or the institution of the Magic Knights is insulted. His reputation has earned him a saintly public epithet.

Behind that image, he is cold, abusive, and willing to exploit civilians. When an elderly woman seeks help recovering her granddaughter, Xerx refuses to assist and goes so far as to threaten the woman herself. He relies on his rank and the authority attached to it to intimidate people who cannot resist him.

Xerx uses Ice Magic, generating and manipulating ice for offensive purposes.

Ice Slicer creates a cutting ice attack that he uses against Zora. As vice-captain of a Magic Knight squad, Xerx possesses sufficient magical ability and professional standing to have earned a senior command position.

Following elf possession, Xerx retains some of the magical power left behind by the reincarnated soul.

Xerx returns from an expedition shortly before the Royal Knights Selection Exam. Zora witnesses him threatening an elderly civilian and deliberately provokes him. Xerx attacks with Ice Magic, but Zora defeats him and takes his Purple Orca robe.

Zora then enters the Royal Knights Selection Exam under Xerx's identity, taking the place assigned to him on a team with Asta and Mimosa. The real Xerx is later discovered unconscious after the tournament has already progressed.

During the Elf Reincarnation crisis, an elf possesses Xerx. Alongside the possessed Protobe Collina and Risacca Ondell, he attacks Hecairo until the Black Bulls intervene. Asta ultimately uses the Demon-Destroyer Sword to remove the reincarnated souls from the three Magic Knights.

Zora Ideale despises the corruption Xerx represents. He defeats Xerx after witnessing his abuse of a civilian and steals his identity for the Royal Knights Selection Exam.

Asta is originally assigned as Xerx's tournament teammate and later helps free him from elf possession at Hecairo.

Mimosa Vermillion is likewise assigned to the team on which Xerx is supposed to compete.

Protobe Collina and Risacca Ondell fight alongside the elf-possessed Xerx during the attack on Hecairo.
