Wrath

Wrath initially behaves like a frightened, curious child. He hides from unfamiliar people, struggles to communicate and responds warmly when Izumi Curtis attempts to care for him.

His behavior changes dramatically after exposure to the other Homunculi and Red Stones. Anger, resentment and a desperate desire for a complete identity increasingly replace his earlier innocence. He becomes especially hostile toward Edward and Izumi, blaming them for circumstances he only partially understands.

Wrath remains emotionally volatile even among the Homunculi. His attachment to Sloth is particularly strong because he treats her as a substitute mother, revealing that his hostility toward Izumi coexists with an intense desire for maternal affection.

Wrath can perform alchemy without drawing a transmutation circle. His abilities allow him to combine and reshape material with his own body, producing transformations that other alchemists generally cannot duplicate.

He can merge his limbs into surrounding substances, alter their composition and extend transformed portions of his body during combat. This makes his alchemy unusually flexible at close range.

Wrath can use alchemy because his right arm and left leg originally belonged to Edward. He acquired them while inside the Gate after the Elric brothers' failed human transmutation.

As a Homunculus sustained by Red Stones, Wrath also possesses enhanced durability and regenerative capacity.

Wrath is discovered on Yock Island, where Izumi once trained Edward and Alphonse. His ability to transmute his own body immediately attracts attention from both the military and the Homunculi.

Wrath was created when Izumi attempted human transmutation to resurrect her stillborn son. Horrified by the result, she returned the being to the Gate, where he remained and aged before acquiring Edward's lost arm and leg.

Envy takes Wrath from Izumi and feeds him Red Stones, encouraging his resentment. Wrath later aligns himself with the Homunculi and develops a strong maternal attachment to Sloth. After Sloth's destruction, he attempts to revive her using the Philosopher's Stone contained within Alphonse.

Dante eventually has the Gate remove Edward's limbs from Wrath, leaving him without his alchemical ability. Winry and Pinako later give him automail replacements. In Conqueror of Shamballa, Wrath willingly fights Gluttony so Alphonse can use both Homunculi as the necessary sacrifice to open the Gate, allowing Wrath to reunite with Izumi beyond it.

Izumi Curtis is Wrath's creator and the mother of the stillborn child she attempted to resurrect. Wrath's feelings toward her combine resentment over being cast into the Gate with a buried desire to be accepted as her son.

Sig Curtis is the father of Izumi's stillborn child and therefore connected to the human life Wrath was created to replace.

Edward Elric is both rival and physical contributor to Wrath's unusual existence. Wrath possesses Edward's lost right arm and left leg for much of the series, allowing him to perform alchemy.

Alphonse Elric encounters Wrath alongside Edward and Izumi. Wrath later seeks the Philosopher's Stone within Alphonse in the hope of restoring Sloth.

Sloth becomes Wrath's maternal figure. He calls her "Mommy" and forms a deep emotional dependence on her.

Envy removes Wrath from Izumi's influence and feeds him Red Stones, helping reshape the frightened child into an ally of the Homunculi.

Dante uses Wrath as one of her Homunculus agents while promising the possibility of humanity through the Philosopher's Stone.

Winry Rockbell later helps provide Wrath with automail after he loses Edward's limbs and the alchemical power they granted him.
