Tomoko Suzuki

Tomoko is proud, forceful and highly conscious of the Suzuki family's standing. Her speech is notably formal, including her use of "watakushi" when referring to herself. She expects members of the household to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the family's reputation.

She is also competitive and enjoys confronting people who challenge her. Her response to Kaitou Kid is not merely defensive; she treats the confrontation as a contest and confidently attempts to outmaneuver him.

Tomoko can be demanding toward Sonoko Suzuki, particularly regarding her daughter's behavior and choice of partner. Her severity is not absolute, however, and her interactions with Makoto Kyogoku gradually reveal that she can respect people who demonstrate sufficient conviction and ability.

Tomoko has no supernatural abilities or established martial-arts training. Her strengths lie in confidence, planning and the enormous resources available to the Suzuki family.

During the Black Star case, she arranges for numerous imitation pearls to be distributed among guests, making it much more difficult for Kaitou Kid to identify the genuine treasure. The plan demonstrates both her caution and her willingness to confront the thief on his own terms.

Tomoko is also difficult to pressure socially. She speaks directly even to people who might normally be treated with greater deference and is prepared to test those who seek acceptance within the Suzuki family.

Tomoko is introduced during the Black Star case, where she participates in protecting the Suzuki family's prized pearl from Kaitou Kid. Her elaborate use of replicas becomes part of the security surrounding the jewel aboard the family's cruise ship.

Her later appearances focus heavily on Sonoko Suzuki's relationship with Makoto Kyogoku. Tomoko is concerned about whether a high-school karate fighter is prepared for the expectations attached to becoming closely involved with the Suzuki family.

Rather than judging Makoto solely by wealth or social position, she tests his resolve and observes his actions. His extraordinary commitment to Sonoko and his ability as a fighter eventually earn genuine respect from her.

Shiro Suzuki is Tomoko's husband. His relaxed, friendly personality contrasts with her stronger concern for family prestige, although the two jointly occupy the senior generation of the Suzuki household.

Sonoko Suzuki is Tomoko's younger daughter. Tomoko frequently criticizes behavior she considers embarrassing to the family and places expectations on Sonoko that her husband generally does not.

Ayako Suzuki is Tomoko's elder daughter and another member of the immediate Suzuki household.

Makoto Kyogoku is Sonoko Suzuki's boyfriend. Tomoko initially questions whether he is prepared for the burdens associated with the Suzuki family, but his character and determination gradually earn her approval.

Kaitou Kid challenges Tomoko by targeting the Black Star. She responds by creating numerous replicas of the pearl and treating his announced theft as a contest she intends to win.
