Personality
Personality
Thorgil is violent, confident, cunning, and genuinely enthusiastic about battle. He has none of Olmar's hesitation about killing and regards warfare as a natural environment in which capable men prove themselves.
His bloodlust does not make him stupid. Thorgil can recognize political traps, assess battlefield conditions quickly, and improvise dangerous plans when conventional fighting would fail.
He also respects determination. Although he often mocks weakness, he responds positively when Olmar finally makes a difficult decision and accepts responsibility for it.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Thorgil is an elite Viking fighter with exceptional strength, speed, endurance, and swordsmanship. His years as a royal thegn have given him extensive battlefield experience.
He can kill armed soldiers rapidly at close range and is comfortable fighting multiple opponents. His attacks combine brute force with technical competence rather than depending on strength alone.
Snake trained Thorgil earlier in life, contributing to the skill that later allows him to function among Canute's professional warriors.
Thorgil is also an excellent swimmer and uses that ability tactically, approaching enemies from directions they consider impossible.
Story Role
Story Role
Thorgil returns home as Olmar struggles with his desire to become a warrior. Rather than discouraging him, Thorgil reinforces the idea that battle will make his younger brother into a man.
In Jelling, he recognizes that the confrontation engineered around Olmar has political implications beyond a street quarrel. When royal soldiers move against Ketil's family, Thorgil responds with immediate lethal violence.
He later returns to the farm and supports Ketil's disastrous decision to resist Canute's army. Unlike most of the estate's defenders, Thorgil understands the scale of the royal force but welcomes the challenge.
During the battle he swims around the fighting and launches a surprise assault directly on Canute, coming close enough that Wulf must personally intervene.
Relationships

Ketil is Thorgil's father. Thorgil believes his father's stories about being the legendary Iron Fist Ketil and initially treats him as a warrior worthy of admiration.

Sverkell is Thorgil's grandfather.
Hebi trained Thorgil before he entered royal service.
Canute is Thorgil's former king and later the target of his surprise attack during the battle for Ketil's farm.
