Wulf

Wulf is intelligent, restrained, loyal, and highly professional. He takes Canute's security seriously without constantly hovering around him, reflecting a relationship built on competence rather than the paternal protectiveness Ragnar once displayed.

He readily acknowledges tactical mistakes and follows orders even when the purpose is unconventional. This becomes particularly clear when Canute assigns him to accompany Thorkell largely because someone sensible must manage the giant warrior's behavior.

Wulf's calm manner also makes him an effective instructor. He can spar with Canute without confusing deference to royalty with the need to provide meaningful combat training.

Wulf is a highly capable swordsman and close-quarters fighter. His position as Canute's battle instructor requires enough skill to train a king who may personally face assassins and battlefield danger.

He is physically strong, quick, and tactically alert. During a sudden attack on Canute, Wulf reacts fast enough to engage a dangerous attacker at extremely close range.

His greatest quality is reliability under pressure. Wulf can coordinate soldiers, protect a principal target, and continue making rational decisions while combat unfolds around him.

Wulf appears at Canute's court as Olmar tries to enter royal service. He participates in evaluating the young man's swordsmanship and becomes part of the political machinery surrounding Canute's plan for Ketil's estate.

When the king's forces later confront Ketil's defenders, Wulf remains close to Canute and oversees the royal guard.

Thorgil infiltrates the royal position by swimming around the battlefield and launches a sudden attack on Canute. Wulf intercepts him, turning what might have been an immediate assassination into a close fight in which both men are injured.

Later manga material places Wulf with Thorkell during the Baltic conflict, where his practical judgment helps balance the enormous warrior's enthusiasm for battle.

Canute is Wulf's king, student, and the central person he is responsible for protecting.

Thorgil becomes one of Wulf's most dangerous direct opponents during the battle at Ketil's farm.

Thorkell later receives Wulf as a royal guard and practical minder during the Baltic Sea conflict.

Estrid is Wulf's wife, a relationship confirmed by series creator Makoto Yukimura.
