Tetsuo

Tetsuo is intimidating, violent and confident in his fighting ability, but he is not motivated by the same bitterness that drives Mitsui's attack on the basketball club. He appears comfortable in the delinquent world and treats fighting as something familiar rather than emotionally charged.

His attitude toward Mitsui is surprisingly perceptive. Once Mitsui chooses basketball, Tetsuo does not ridicule him for abandoning the gang. Instead, he recognizes that Mitsui looks more natural as an athlete and effectively encourages him to remain on that path.

This capacity to respect another person's decision distinguishes Tetsuo from the more vindictive members of the group. He may be dangerous, but his loyalty is not possessive.

Tetsuo is one of the strongest street fighters shown in the series. His experience, adult physique and willingness to fight without restraint allow him to overpower multiple Shohoku basketball players during the gymnasium incident.

He is particularly dangerous because he does not rely merely on intimidation. Ryota Miyagi and Kaede Rukawa, both capable fighters, are among the players who suffer under the gang's attack.

Sakuragi ultimately proves physically superior. Once Sakuragi directs his full anger toward Tetsuo, his exceptional strength and durability overwhelm the older fighter.

Tetsuo enters during Mitsui's assault on the Shohoku basketball club. The gang attempts to provoke the players into fighting because participation in a violent incident could threaten the club's tournament eligibility.

Tetsuo acts as the group's principal physical threat. His presence makes the confrontation far more dangerous than an ordinary school fight and forces Sakuragi and his friends to intervene.

After Mitsui admits that he wants to play basketball again, Tetsuo accepts his departure from delinquent life. When the two later meet, Tetsuo encourages Mitsui to continue looking like an athlete rather than return to the gang.

The television anime expands Tetsuo's role with an additional conflict involving Ryuu and other delinquents. This material is anime-original rather than part of Takehiko Inoue's manga.

Hisashi Mitsui is Tetsuo's delinquent companion. Tetsuo ultimately respects Mitsui's decision to leave the gang and return to basketball.

Hanamichi Sakuragi is the fighter capable of decisively overpowering Tetsuo during the gymnasium attack.

Ryota Miyagi and Kaede Rukawa are among the Shohoku players Tetsuo fights.

Ryuu is another member of the delinquent circle and becomes Tetsuo's opponent in an anime-original continuation.

Yohei Mito and Sakuragi's other friends oppose Tetsuo's group during the attack on the basketball club.
