Taoka

Taoka is suspicious, cautious and unwilling to dismiss unexplained events merely because their apparent explanation seems unlikely.

He questions Mitsuyo's claim that Shinichi is her nephew and later refuses to allow Shinichi to leave the area when a murder occurs nearby. His suspicion is initially directed at Shinichi because he is an unfamiliar outsider rather than because Taoka understands anything about Parasites.

Taoka is also more willing than some villagers to listen when Nakano describes an apparently impossible attacker. He does not immediately accept the story, but neither does he join those who simply laugh at it.

Taoka is an ordinary human without supernatural abilities.

He has no ability to sense Parasites and no specialized combat training.

His practical strengths are caution and familiarity with the local area, both of which become useful when the community begins investigating the strange incidents around the forest.

Taoka first encounters Mitsuyo walking with Shinichi Izumi. Mitsuyo initially claims that Shinichi is her nephew.

After a car accident and a murder occur nearby, Taoka stops Shinichi from leaving and takes him to meet Nakano, hoping to determine whether the stranger is connected to the killing.

Nakano instead describes Gotou's monstrous transformed appearance, and Shinichi realizes that his enemy is still nearby. Taoka later accompanies Nakano, Naitou and police officers into the forest, where they discover the victim's remains.

Mitsuyo is a fellow resident of Taoka's community. He questions her explanation for Shinichi's presence.

Shinichi Izumi attracts Taoka's suspicion because he appears shortly before several unusual incidents.

Nakano provides the eyewitness account that shifts attention away from Shinichi and toward an inhuman attacker.

Naitou accompanies Taoka during the villagers' investigation.

Gotou is the actual threat operating near the village.
