Nakano

Nakano is initially overwhelmed and frightened by what he has witnessed. His agitation grows when several villagers laugh at his description of the creature, leaving him desperate to prove that he is telling the truth.

Despite his fear, he eventually accompanies the group investigating the forest. His insistence that conventional precautions are insufficient shows that he understands the danger more accurately than the people who initially dismiss him.

His reactions are grounded in shock rather than cowardice. Nakano has encountered something completely outside normal human experience and struggles to communicate what he saw in terms his neighbors will believe.

Nakano is an ordinary human without supernatural abilities.

He has no capacity to detect Parasites and no specialized means of fighting them. His principal contribution is eyewitness testimony based on directly observing a transformed Parasite.

The encounter gives him practical knowledge that the threat in the forest is not an ordinary human or animal.

Nakano enters the story in the countryside near Mitsuyo's home. Taoka and other villagers later question him while Shinichi Izumi is being considered as a possible suspect in recent disturbances.

Nakano witnessed Gotou attack his companion Kitayama in the forest and escaped with his friend's blood on his clothes. He describes the attacker as a huge, multi-limbed monster, allowing Shinichi to realize that Gotou has reached the village.

Nakano subsequently accompanies Taoka, Naitou and police officers into the forest, where Kitayama's mutilated remains confirm that his seemingly impossible account was genuine.

Kitayama is Nakano's companion in the forest. Nakano witnesses Gotou attack and kill him and later leads investigators toward the area where the attack occurred.

Taoka takes Nakano's account more seriously than several of the other villagers and accompanies him during the investigation.

Naitou initially laughs at Nakano's description of the monster but later accompanies him into the forest.

Gotou is the creature responsible for the attack Nakano witnesses.

Shinichi Izumi is briefly presented to Nakano as a possible suspect, but Nakano insists that the attacker was not human.
