Tanishi

Tanishi is willing to participate in the exploitation of a child and benefits from the coercive control the gang exercises over Yahiko. The group treats Yahiko's attempts at independence as insubordination rather than recognizing his right to leave.

Little individual characterization is established beyond his membership in the gang. He functions primarily as part of the collective threat surrounding Yahiko rather than as a criminal with a separate personal agenda.

Tanishi has no established named fighting style, special technique or exceptional physical ability. His strength comes largely from belonging to an organized group of adult criminals capable of intimidating people who cannot safely resist them.

Against Kenshin, that advantage disappears. The former Battosai's presence makes clear how limited the gang's actual fighting ability is when confronted by a highly trained swordsman.

Tanishi appears during Yahiko's introduction. Although Yahiko is the son of a samurai family, circumstances have left him under the control of yakuza who force him to work as a pickpocket.

Yahiko eventually refuses to continue stealing. Gasuke responds violently, and the situation escalates when the criminals insult Yahiko's parents and the boy fights back.

Kenshin intervenes when Yahiko is threatened with a sword. After effortlessly overpowering the gang's resistance, he compels the criminals to release Yahiko, allowing the boy to begin a new life at the Kamiya Dojo.

Yahiko Myojin is exploited by the yakuza group to which Tanishi belongs and forced to steal on its behalf.

Gasuke is Tanishi's fellow gang member and the principal enforcer shown punishing Yahiko.

Kenshin Himura confronts the gang and forces it to relinquish control over Yahiko.
