Tamotsu Jinno

Jinno is described as an accomplished surgeon whose personal conduct creates serious problems. His drinking is particularly significant, affecting both his professional relationships and the circumstances surrounding the case.

Much of his characterization is provided retrospectively through the testimony of people who knew or investigated him.

Jinno is a trained heart surgeon with the medical knowledge and technical skills required for complex operations.

His professional ability is undermined by irresponsible behavior, particularly alcohol use. This creates conflict with colleagues and contributes to the chain of events eventually examined by the police.

Jinno's death occurs roughly a year before the main events of Captured in Her Eyes. He is found with his throat cut, and the circumstances initially support the conclusion that he took his own life amid a malpractice lawsuit.

Chief Inspector Nobukatsu Tomonari leads an investigation into doubts surrounding that explanation. After Tomonari dies during the investigation, the case is closed as a suicide.

The truth is that psychiatrist Kyosuke Kazato, formerly a surgeon, murdered Jinno. During an operation, an intoxicated Jinno had injured Kazato's hands with a scalpel, destroying Kazato's ability to continue performing surgery. Kazato later kills the officers investigating Jinno's death to conceal his crime.

Tamaki Jinno is Tamotsu's younger sister. Tamaki Jinno refuses to believe that her brother would have taken his own life simply because of a malpractice lawsuit.

Kyosuke Kazato [worked with Jinno as a surgeon. After Jinno permanently damaged Kyosuke Kazato's hands during an operation, Kazato murdered him in revenge.](#spoiler)
