Sonju

Sonju is stoic, confident and intimidating. He rarely displays the warmth Mujika shows toward the children, but he patiently teaches them practical skills and does not permit other demons to capture them.

He follows an old religious tradition that considers farmed humans forbidden food. His adherence is sincere, but it does not mean he objects to eating all humans.

Sonju hopes that escaped humans will eventually reproduce naturally outside the farm system. Because such descendants would be born outside the farms, he believes his religion would allow him to hunt and eat them.

Despite that motive, he repeatedly helps Emma's family and develops respect for their determination.

Sonju is an exceptionally powerful demon and an experienced hunter. He carries a spear and possesses tremendous strength, speed and reflexes.

He teaches the children how to identify edible plants, navigate the wilderness, hunt and kill demons by destroying the vital eye located behind their masks.

As a member of the demon royal bloodline, Sonju possesses exceptional natural ability. His long lifespan and centuries of experience make him dangerous even among powerful demons.

Sonju and Mujika rescue Emma's group from pursuing demons shortly after the children leave Grace Field. He explains important features of the world beyond the farms and helps train the escapees for independent survival.

After separating from the children, Sonju continues traveling with Mujika. Their unusual existence becomes increasingly important as the conflict expands from escaping individual farms to changing the structure of demon society.

The manga eventually reveals that Sonju was born into the demon royal family and is a younger brother of Queen Legravalima and Leuvis. He abandoned royal society after adopting the old faith.

Sonju later protects Mujika when Norman's followers hunt for her and participates in the upheaval that ends the old demon regime.

Mujika is Sonju's longtime traveling companion. He protects her and shares her religious rejection of farmed human meat, although their attitudes toward humans differ.

Emma receives survival training from Sonju and gradually learns that his help does not mean his motives are entirely altruistic.

Ray initially encounters Sonju while fleeing pursuing demons and learns wilderness survival from him.

Leuvis is Sonju's older brother and a fellow member of the demon royal family.

Queen Legravalima is Sonju's older sister, whose rule represents much of the social order from which he has separated himself.
