Mujika

Mujika is compassionate, patient and unusually sympathetic toward humans. She treats the Grace Field escapees as frightened children rather than livestock and takes particular care of Emma while teaching the group how to survive outside the farms.

She is less openly militant than Sonju. Although both reject the consumption of farmed humans for religious reasons, Mujika develops genuine affection for the children and worries about the dangers they will face after leaving her protection.

Despite her gentle manner, Mujika is not naïve. She has survived for centuries while hiding an ability that powerful demons would consider politically dangerous, and she understands when secrecy is necessary.

Mujika possesses the characteristics of a demon but is distinguished by a rare mutation associated with what becomes known as the Evil Blood. She can maintain a stable humanoid form indefinitely without consuming human flesh. More importantly, demons who drink her blood can acquire the same ability, eliminating their biological dependence on humans.

She is knowledgeable about wilderness survival, medicinal plants and the society beyond the farms. During the children's time with her, she teaches them practical skills they need to travel through demon territory.

Mujika's blood makes her potentially revolutionary. If ordinary demons no longer need human meat to prevent degeneration, the ruling class's justification for maintaining the farm system is fundamentally weakened.

Mujika and Sonju rescue Emma's group after the children encounter hostile demons in the forest. Their identities initially frighten the escapees, but Mujika cares for Emma and helps teach the children how to survive.

Before they separate, Mujika gives Emma a pendant that later becomes important in her journey. The two form a strong bond despite belonging to species that have been deliberately kept in opposition.

The manga later reveals Mujika's deeper history. She was born with blood capable of preventing demon degeneration without human consumption. A demon settlement that received her blood was destroyed on Queen Legravalima's orders because the ruling class feared losing control over the population, but Mujika escaped with Sonju.

When Norman later plans to eradicate the demons by inducing mass degeneration, Mujika becomes central to Emma's alternative. Her blood offers a way to save demon society without preserving the human farms. Following the collapse of the old regime, Mujika is eventually accepted as queen and helps establish a new social order.

Sonju is Mujika's longtime traveling companion and protector. They share religious objections to eating farmed humans, though Sonju's motives and attitude toward humans are considerably more complicated than hers.

Emma becomes especially close to Mujika after their meeting in the forest. Mujika teaches her survival skills, gives her the pendant and later becomes central to Emma's attempt to resolve the conflict without exterminating demons.

Ray initially distrusts Mujika because she is a demon but comes to recognize that she and Sonju genuinely helped his family.

Norman initially views Mujika as a threat to his plan because her blood can prevent the degeneration on which his strategy depends. Emma's opposition eventually prevents the conflict from ending with Mujika's death.

Queen Legravalima regards Mujika's blood as a threat to the social hierarchy and suppresses knowledge of demons who can survive without human flesh.
