Shouto Todoroki

Shouto is the youngest child of the Todoroki family, born to Pro Hero Endeavor and Rei Todoroki. Endeavor's Quirk, Hellflame, gives him tremendous firepower but causes his body to overheat. Determined to surpass All Might, he enters a Quirk marriage with Rei, whose ice ability could theoretically produce a child capable of regulating heat through an opposing power.

The first Todoroki children fail to satisfy Endeavor's goal in different ways. Shouto eventually manifests Half-Cold Half-Hot, possessing Rei's ice on his right side and Endeavor's fire on his left. Shouto responds by refusing to use the left side of Half-Cold Half-Hot. Shouto wants his family to recover, but he learns that acknowledging change does not require pretending previous abuse never happened.

Shouto stands 176 cm tall and has a lean, athletic build. His most distinctive feature is the sharp division in his coloring: the right half of his hair is white like Rei's, while the left is crimson like Endeavor's. His eyes follow a similar contrast, with a gray right eye and turquoise left eye.

A large burn scar surrounds his left eye. The scar dates to early childhood and lies on the same side as the fire component of Half-Cold Half-Hot, visually connecting the physical injury with the part of himself he initially rejects.

Flashfire Fist is a high-temperature technique learned through Endeavor's training methods. Rather than simply generating broad flames, Shouto concentrates and raises his fire output for more powerful, controlled applications.

Jet Kindling applies concentrated Flashfire Fist flames in a focused offensive burst, emphasizing heat density rather than the wide-area fire attacks he used earlier.

Phosphor circulates both hot and cold energy through Shouto's body using a technique derived from Flashfire Fist. Instead of treating his two halves independently, he combines them into a balanced internal state that produces unusually cold flame-like energy.

Great Glacial Aegir is one of Shouto's largest Phosphor applications. He releases an enormous wave of cold capable of rapidly freezing a vast area, drawing on the simultaneous interaction of his fire and ice rather than ordinary ice production alone.

Endeavor, whose real name is Enji Todoroki, is Shouto's father and the central source of conflict in his childhood. Endeavor deliberately arranged his marriage and trained Shouto as part of his attempt to produce a hero capable of surpassing All Might. Shouto responds by rejecting his father's fire and refusing to regard him as a legitimate parental figure. Izuku Midoriya is the classmate who most directly changes Shouto's view of his own Quirk. During the Sports Festival, Izuku Midoriya refuses to exploit Shouto's self-imposed restriction and instead challenges his belief that using fire means surrendering to Endeavor. Katsuki Bakugou defeats Shouto in the Sports Festival final but is furious because Shouto refuses to use his fire, making the victory feel incomplete. Tenya Iida becomes one of Shouto's closest friends through Class 1-A. When Tenya Iida pursues Stain out of revenge, Shouto responds after receiving Izuku's location and joins the fight. His presence helps save Iida and reinforces the lesson that personal anger can distort a person's understanding of why they want to be a hero.

Momo Yaoyorozu enters U.A. through recommendation alongside Shouto. During their final examination against Shota Aizawa, Shouto realizes that Momo Yaoyorozu's confidence has collapsed partly because she continually compares herself with classmates such as him. He deliberately places trust in her plan, helping restore her belief in her own judgment.

Camie Utsushimi meets Shouto properly during his provisional-license remedial course. This distinction demonstrates how far he has moved from the boy who refused to use fire because it came from his father.

The Paranormal Liberation War pulls the Todoroki family's private history into the center of the national conflict. The confrontation surrounding his brother requires Shouto to use everything he has learned about combining his two halves while determining what he believes his responsibility to his family should be.

The final war places Shouto directly in a battle shaped by the consequences of Endeavor's choices. Rather than merely continuing his father's conflict, Shouto develops Phosphor specifically through a balanced use of both inherited elements, creating an ability that neither parent could have produced alone.

Shouto begins by defining himself through opposition. He refuses fire because Endeavor wants him to use it and intends to become the best hero with Rei's ice alone. His choices appear rebellious, but they remain entirely organized around his father's expectations.

Izuku's intervention at the Sports Festival exposes that contradiction. When Izuku tells him that the power is his own, Shouto remembers wanting to become a hero before his family trauma turned that desire into another battlefield with Endeavor. Using fire voluntarily becomes less an acceptance of his father than a refusal to surrender ownership of himself.
