Tenya Iida

Iida is earnest, disciplined, responsible, and sometimes comically rigid. He frequently punctuates his speech with chopping arm movements and tries to enforce school rules even in situations where his classmates are behaving casually.

He is also humble enough to acknowledge mistakes. His initial judgment of Izuku Midoriya during the entrance examination changes immediately after he interprets Izuku's actions as selfless, and he openly admits that he misjudged him.

His strongest personal weakness emerges when his family is threatened. The attack on Tensei causes Iida to abandon the standards he normally demands of others and pursue revenge, forcing him to confront the difference between personal vengeance and genuine heroism.

Engine gives Iida automobile-like engines in his calves. By consuming fuel through food and maintaining the engines properly, he can propel himself at extraordinary speed and deliver powerful kicks enhanced by his momentum.

His early Recipro Burst temporarily pushes his engines beyond normal output, giving him explosive acceleration at the cost of temporarily stalling afterward.

Iida later develops Recipro Turbo after undergoing painful training associated with the Iida family's Quirk. The technique dramatically increases the speed and duration of his maximum output, allowing him to operate at levels far beyond his early U.A. performance.

Iida meets Izuku and Ochaco Uraraka during the U.A. entrance examination and becomes one of Izuku's earliest school friends. Class 1-A subsequently elects him class representative.

During the U.S.J. attack, Iida is entrusted with escaping the facility and reaching U.A.'s faculty for help, a task that emphasizes his speed and his classmates' trust in him.

The Hero Killer incident becomes his defining early crisis. After Tensei is critically injured, Iida selects Hosu for his internship specifically to locate Stain. His attempt at revenge nearly costs him his life before Izuku and Shoto Todoroki intervene.

In the final war, Iida uses his speed to transport Shoto across an enormous distance toward the Todoroki family's battlefield, fulfilling his role as the person capable of carrying a friend where he is most needed.

Tensei Iida is Tenya's older brother, childhood hero, and inspiration for adopting the Ingenium name.

Izuku Midoriya becomes one of Iida's closest friends and helps stop him from sacrificing his future for revenge.

Ochaco Uraraka forms part of Iida and Izuku's close early friendship group at U.A.

Shoto Todoroki fights alongside Iida in Hosu and later relies on Iida's speed during the final conflict.

Stain critically injures Tensei and becomes the target of Iida's revenge.
