Personality
Personality
Shinomiya is comparatively calm and pragmatic. Although he shares the martial culture of the Suwa warriors, he is capable of recognizing when pride is pushing Hoshina toward an unnecessary disaster.
His restraint does not come from cowardice. Shinomiya is prepared to fight when required and supports his allies once a course of action has been chosen. The difference is that he does not regard an avoidable death as automatically desirable.
His relationship with Hoshina reflects the familiarity of neighboring lords who have fought and lived alongside one another. Shinomiya can challenge his ally's decisions without undermining his loyalty.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Shinomiya is a skilled archer. His bow is his defining combat specialty, and he is particularly effective when attacking from advantageous terrain while allied forces maneuver below.
He can fire rapidly enough to contribute sustained ranged pressure against enemy troops. His archery becomes especially valuable during retreat operations, where covering fire can prevent pursuing cavalry and infantry from closing on civilians.
As a local lord, Shinomiya also commands his own retainers rather than operating solely as an individual fighter.
Story Role
Story Role
Shinomiya appears during the rebellion against Kiyohara's administration in northern Shinano. He attempts to keep Hoshina from pursuing a suicidal confrontation but becomes involved once the situation develops into open battle.
Tokiyuki Houjou arrives under orders from Yorishige Suwa to persuade the rebels to withdraw. Shinomiya supports the eventual decision to escape and helps the retreating force protect civilians.
During the pursuit, Shinomiya's archery provides ranged support while Tokiyuki attempts to coordinate a fighting withdrawal. The battle demonstrates that "running away" can demand as much military discipline as an advance.
