Shigure

Shigure is eccentric, perceptive and intensely interested in unusual people. He believes the eyes reveal something fundamental about an individual, which helps explain both his profession and his fascination with Hiei and Kurama.

His medical services follow a personal code rather than a commercial one. Hiei's extraordinary history interests him enough to serve as payment for the Jagan operation, while the promise he requests afterward carries more significance to him than money.

As a warrior, Shigure possesses considerable pride in his swordsmanship and treats serious combat as a test of personal worth.

Shigure is a Lower S-Class demon, an accomplished surgeon and an elite swordsman. He fights with the Rinka Enreki-to, a large circular blade fashioned from the bone of a Demon World beast.

His sword can be spun at extreme speed, creating powerful cutting attacks and a violent vortex around him. He possesses the physical speed, durability and demonic energy expected of Mukuro's highest-ranking warriors.

His medical skill is equally remarkable. Shigure successfully implants the Jagan Eye into Hiei, an operation that dramatically reduces Hiei's power while giving him a versatile supernatural eye.

Shigure first enters Hiei's history when Hiei seeks a way to locate the Ice Maiden village from which he was cast out. Shigure agrees to implant the Jagan after hearing Hiei's story.

Following the operation, Shigure warns that Hiei's power has fallen drastically and teaches him elements of swordsmanship while he recovers. He also asks Hiei for a promise concerning Yukina.

Much later, Hiei encounters Shigure again after entering Mukuro's service. Mukuro makes the two fight for a position among her elite warriors. Their brutal duel leaves both catastrophically injured, but Mukuro restores them.

Shigure subsequently enters the Demon World Tournament and faces Kurama. Kurama defeats him by manipulating the vegetation forming their battlefield rather than overpowering him directly.

Hiei is Shigure's patient, temporary student and eventual opponent. Shigure implants his Jagan and teaches him the rudiments of swordsmanship.

Yukina is Hiei's twin sister, and Shigure makes Hiei promise never to reveal their relationship to her if he finds her.

Mukuro employs Shigure among her elite warriors and later oversees his confrontation with Hiei.

Kurama faces Shigure in the Demon World Tournament and defeats him through a strategy involving the arena's plant life.
