Selby

Selby initially appears skeptical, grounded and accustomed to Balgo's eccentric behavior. He refuses to believe Balgo's account of Noel mysteriously disappearing because Reverse London sounds no more plausible to him than a fairy tale.

He nevertheless displays genuine familiarity with Balgo and tolerates his friend's obsessive pursuit of Noel. His fond reaction to Osushi also gives him an approachable demeanor before the situation becomes dangerous.

The creature using Selby's identity has a much darker personality. As a Disguiser, it is proud of having remained undetected among humans for a decade and obsessively pursues the legend that eating a witch will grant immortality. Even then, it retains a degree of attachment to Balgo and initially prefers not to harm him.

The Selby present during the main story is a Disguiser Dragon occupying the original Selby's corpse. Disguisers inhabit dead bodies and can maintain the appearance and identity of the deceased while concealing their Dragon nature.

When revealed, Selby's Dragon body is large and monstrous, granting him substantial physical strength and the ability to attack witches directly. He is strong enough to seriously injure Ninny and break her arm during their confrontation.

His greatest advantage is concealment. He successfully lives among humans as Selby for ten years without his Dragon identity being exposed, an exceptional achievement for a Disguiser.

Selby accompanies Balgo when he tries to investigate the location where Noel seemingly disappeared. His skepticism establishes how impossible Reverse London appears to ordinary Front London residents.

The situation changes when Osushi transforms and Wing Bind agents arrive. Selby then reveals that he too is a Disguiser Dragon and attacks Ninny, hoping that devouring a witch will grant him immortality.

The original human Selby died at age seven after saving Balgo from an oncoming train. A Disguiser subsequently occupied his corpse and continued living as Selby for the next decade.

Balgo refuses to treat those ten years as meaningless. Even after learning the truth, he insists that the creature has been his friend for longer than the original Selby was, and places himself in danger trying to stop him. Noel ultimately defeats the Disguiser. The encounter leaves Balgo bitten by a Dragon and results in his classification as Dragonclad.

Balgo Parks is Selby's childhood friend. The original Selby sacrifices himself to save Balgo from a train, while the Disguiser that assumes his identity continues acting as Balgo's friend for approximately ten years. Balgo consequently refuses to dismiss their relationship even after learning the truth.

Osushi immediately wins Selby's affection in his Pomeranian form. Both Osushi and the later Selby are ultimately revealed as Disguiser Dragons.

Ninny Spangcole becomes Selby's primary target because he believes consuming a witch may grant him immortality. He seriously injures her during their fight.

Noel Niihashi intervenes against Selby and ultimately defeats him after Balgo attempts to protect Ninny.
