Sasaki Karin

Karin is abrasive, judgmental and quick to accept damaging rumors. His hostility toward Shinra comes from believing the public account of the Kusakabe family fire, and he initially shows little interest in questioning whether that story is fair.

His loyalty to Company 4's principles is considerably stronger than his personal grudges. The brigade's insistence on protecting survivors and never abandoning someone in danger means Karin will defend even a person he dislikes when that person needs help.

Karin also works effectively with his fellow Company 4 members. Ogun's judgment in particular can push him past his stubbornness when circumstances demand cooperation.

Karin is a Third Generation pyrokinetic specializing in defense. His Ignition Ability, Scale Shield, generates hexagonal plates of flame that can be positioned around people or assembled into barriers.

Individual scales can block attacks and falling debris, while larger formations can create walls and roadblocks. The ability is particularly valuable during evacuation operations because Karin can protect multiple people without needing to engage every threat directly.

With Pan Ko Paat's Buff Stacking, Karin can dramatically increase the output of Scale Shield. During the increasingly powerful combustion phenomena surrounding the Cataclysm, Scale Shield: Full Force Deployment forms an enormous semi-dome capable of protecting a substantial stretch of coastline.

Karin is introduced when Shinra visits Company 4 while investigating Adolla. Their encounter immediately exposes Karin's belief that Shinra murdered his family, leading to a brief physical confrontation.

During the strange disturbances surrounding Shinra's Adolla Link, Haumea takes control of Karin and uses him as one of the disguised attackers targeting Shinra. Karin has no memory of his actions afterward, reinforcing the danger of Haumea's electrical manipulation.

He later participates in Company 4's response to large-scale threats near Tokyo's coast. His defensive ability becomes increasingly valuable as battles move beyond ordinary Infernal suppression and begin threatening civilians over enormous areas.

During the emergence of the later Stone Pillars, Karin works with Pan and Ogun to protect civilians from Titan Infernals and other catastrophic attacks. His large-scale shields become part of Company 4's contribution to Tokyo's defense.

Ogun Montgomery is Karin's friend and fellow Company 4 Fire Soldier. Ogun frequently challenges Karin's assumptions and persuades him to cooperate when his prejudice toward Company 8 gets in the way.

Shinra Kusakabe is a former academy peer whom Karin initially despises because he believes Shinra killed his family. Their relationship remains contentious, though Karin's duty as a Fire Soldier takes priority when Shinra requires protection.

Arthur Boyle attended the Special Fire Force Training Academy alongside Karin, Shinra and Ogun.

Pan Ko Paat is Karin's superior in Company 4. His support ability can dramatically amplify Karin's Scale Shield.

Souichirou Hague is Karin's captain during his earlier service in Company 4 and restrains him when Haumea manipulates Karin into attacking Shinra.
