Saruwatari

Saruwatari is intimidating, callous and obedient when acting under orders. He relies more heavily on physical force and authority than strategy, making him useful as an enforcer for Industrial Illusions.

He is willing to threaten people who interfere with his assignments and shows little concern for contestants he considers troublesome. His loyalty is primarily to the organization employing him rather than to the people around him.

Saruwatari is not particularly subtle once his role as an operative becomes open. His effectiveness comes from intimidation, physical presence and willingness to carry out unpleasant tasks.

Saruwatari is not established as a Duel Monsters player of significance. In the manga, when Yami Yugi challenges him over Mokuba, Saruwatari instead arranges for another duelist to fight in his place.

His principal skills are those expected of a professional bodyguard and security operative. He is physically imposing and capable of restraining or intimidating targets.

He also functions as a spy. His position within KaibaCorp allows Industrial Illusions to gather information about the company before his true allegiance becomes apparent.

Saruwatari's manga incarnation initially works around Seto Kaiba and Mokuba Kaiba as one of their bodyguards while secretly supplying information to Pegasus.

He later appears at Duelist Kingdom as an Industrial Illusions operative. He handles eliminated contestants and assists in maintaining security around Pegasus's island and castle.

The Duel Monsters anime alters parts of his earlier history but retains his basic function as one of Pegasus's enforcers. He appears around Duelist Kingdom and becomes involved in several situations where Industrial Illusions needs physical intervention rather than another tournament duelist.

Pegasus J. Crawford is Saruwatari's employer at Industrial Illusions. Saruwatari carries out security and enforcement work on behalf of Pegasus J. Crawford.

Seto Kaiba is connected to Saruwatari through his infiltration of KaibaCorp. [In the manga, Saruwatari secretly works against Seto Kaiba while posing as one of the Kaiba family's bodyguards.](#spoiler)

Mokuba Kaiba is one of the people Saruwatari is tasked with handling during the Duelist Kingdom conflict.

Crocketts serves Pegasus alongside Saruwatari, although Crocketts occupies a more administrative position within Industrial Illusions.
