Ryuusui Nanami

Ryusui was born in Kanagawa on November 11, 1998 into the family controlling the Nanami Conglomerate. He grows up surrounded by wealth, business and high expectations, but his interests concentrate on ships, travel and acquiring direct experience. Family members view his spending and confidence as troublesome even when the expenditure develops a real skill.

From childhood he studies sailing, weather and navigation, operating vessels rather than treating them as status objects. He builds an exacting scale model of a sailing ship and develops the practical judgment needed to read wind, water and clouds. His ability becomes valuable enough that the Kingdom of Science later regards him as the best available person to command a transoceanic voyage.

Ryusui is petrified with the rest of modern humanity in 2019. Thousands of years later, Senku Ishigami searches old records for a first-rate sailor and selects him for revival. He awakens demanding payment and ownership rights, immediately turning the planned expedition into an argument over resources and incentives.

Rather than reject those demands outright, Senku and Gen Asagiri incorporate them into a new economy. Ryusui issues paper currency called drago, values resource claims and creates demand for goods and labor. The resulting market repeatedly escapes his exclusive control, but it gives the growing community a way to coordinate work beyond direct orders.

Ryusui is confident, theatrical and unapologetically greedy. He announces that he desires people, objects, food, travel and entire horizons, often punctuating the statement with a snap of his fingers. He treats wanting something as the beginning of a plan rather than a source of shame.

His greed is expansive rather than narrowly hoarding. Ryusui wants excellent meals, so he revives a skilled cook; he wants the ocean, so he helps build a ship; he wants images and entertainment, so he supports cameras and computers. The pursuit of private desire often produces infrastructure that others can use.

He is also an optimist under pressure. Storms, shortages and dangerous gambles excite him because they create decisions worthy of his abilities. That confidence can look reckless, but it rests on rapid observation, practical experience and an ability to price risk without becoming paralyzed by it.

Ryusui respects competence more than formal status. He bargains aggressively with Senku and Gen, accepts corrections from specialists and gives credit when another person is better suited to a task. His manners are imperious, yet he rarely treats humble origins, age or unconventional behavior as reasons to dismiss useful ability.

Ryusui is a tall, athletic young man listed at 187 cm and 78 kg in supplementary profile material. He has shaggy blonde hair, brown eyes and unusually thick eyebrows shaped like outward-pointing arrows. His posture and broad grin reinforce the confidence of his speech.

After revival, he receives a formal captain's outfit made by Yuzuriha Ogawa. The ensemble includes a red double-breasted coat with gold trim, light trousers, boots and a peaked cap. It gives him the silhouette of an old-fashioned naval commander while remaining practical enough for a Stone World vessel.

His right hand initially bears a broad petrification mark left by the stone shell. When later petrification healing removes the original mark, he recreates it with paint as part of the shared visual identity of the early revival group. The marking is especially visible during his finger-snapping gestures.

Ryusui's clothing changes for climate and transport. He wears flight gear while piloting, cold-weather clothing during global travel and lighter garments at sea. The captain's cap, coat colors and forceful hand gestures remain his most recognizable design elements across adaptations.

Ryusui is an expert sailor and navigator capable of reading wind, currents, cloud development, terrain and celestial references without modern instruments. He plans routes, anticipates dangerous weather and commands crews during abrupt changes. His experience covers both small vessels and the operational demands of a large sailing ship.

He is also a skilled pilot. Ryusui handles hot-air balloons, powered aircraft and unfamiliar machines with quick adaptation, combining physical control with meteorological judgment. In aerial conflict he can pursue, evade and coordinate with ground or shipboard teams rather than merely keep a vehicle aloft.

His business abilities include valuation, currency creation, bargaining, investment and speculation. Ryusui understands that scarce resources, labor and information gain price through demand. Although Gen can outmaneuver him socially and Senku can reshape the market with new technology, Ryusui remains one of the Kingdom's strongest operational planners.

He has good strength, stamina and reflexes, but is not an elite close-combat fighter on the level of Tsukasa Shishio or Kohaku. His decisive advantages are judgment and coordination. He can operate drones, communicate in Morse code, work across languages and assign specialists to rapidly changing tasks.

Ryusui has no canonically named personal attack, transformation or piloting maneuver. His finger snap and declarations of desire are signatures of presentation, not supernatural techniques, and the story never treats them as a formal move set.

The story instead presents navigation, meteorology, seamanship and piloting as learned professional competencies. Even his most dramatic maneuvers are described through their immediate function rather than announced with recurring titles, distinguishing his skill set from the named attacks of conventional battle manga.

Crossover games may assign branded move names to Ryusui for their combat systems, but those labels are adaptation-specific mechanics. They should not be imported into the manga biography as canonical techniques.

Senku Ishigami is Ryusui's principal scientific and operational partner. Senku Ishigami supplies theory and invention, while Ryusui supplies navigation, risk judgment, markets and command. They clash over ownership, routes and resource allocation without doubting the other's competence. Their negotiations usually produce a third solution neither could impose alone.

François is Ryusui's steward, chef and closest daily collaborator. Ryusui asks for François's revival because exploration requires professional food and logistics, not merely personal luxury. Each understands the other's standards without lengthy explanation. Their devotion is substantial, but the manga does not define it as romantic.

Sai Nanami is revealed as Ryusui's older half-brother, a mathematical and programming prodigy who withdrew from Nanami family pressure. Ryusui initially repeats their old conflict by demanding Sai Nanami's labor, while Gen Asagiri helps both recognize that Ryusui also wants shared play and family connection. Their cooperation becomes essential to rebuilding computers.

Gen Asagiri is a fellow strategist, poker opponent and member of the Kingdom's senior planning group. Gen Asagiri converts Ryusui's ambition into deals other people will accept and can exploit his certainty in games of hidden information. Chrome begins as a rival adventurer without formal training; surviving a dangerous balloon journey turns competition into mutual respect.

Suika is treated by Ryusui as a full contributor rather than a child mascot. After her solitary years rebuilding revival fluid, he explicitly recognizes her as a complete member of the Kingdom of Science. Stanley Snyder earns his professional respect as a superior military pilot, and Ryusui gives up his expected lunar seat in favor of the more qualified aviator. Kohaku later shares the demands of lunar travel with him, while their contrasting skills support the same mission.

Ryusui enters when rebuilding civilization requires travel beyond Japan. Senku can design engines and instruments, but the Kingdom lacks a person with enough practical sailing experience to cross the Pacific. Reviving Ryusui supplies the judgment needed to turn a construction project into a viable expedition.

Before the voyage, he helps build an economy around drago currency, resource rights and paid labor. He pilots the balloon used to map territory and locate oil, supports agriculture and requests François for food production. His precise model and maritime knowledge guide construction of the Perseus, which he then commands toward Treasure Island.

On the island, Ryusui is petrified, revived for the struggle over the Medusa, shattered while helping Senku seize the device, reconstructed and revived again. During the American campaign he captains vessels, pilots aircraft and helps contest control of air and water. The pursuing soldiers later leave him critically wounded, but the second global petrification preserves him until revival fluid can restore the group.

The later global project broadens his command from one ship to an international supply network. He helps restore Sai for computer development, recommends Stanley over himself as the lunar pilot and eventually reaches the Moon aboard an additional rocket used to aid the endangered crew. His role remains captain and entrepreneur even when he is not the person occupying the most prestigious seat.

Ryusui begins by claiming everything he sees, including natural resources that no modern legal system remains to enforce. Senku and Gen do not eliminate his desire; they create markets and technologies that force ownership to circulate. The experience makes his greed productive only when other people can bargain back.

His command style develops through shared risk. Ryusui still makes bold declarations, but the Perseus cannot sail through his will alone. Craftspeople, farmers, scouts, scientists and ordinary crew members make each voyage possible, and he learns to treat their expertise as assets that cannot simply be purchased or replaced.

The relationship with Sai Nanami exposes the difference between desiring a person's ability and understanding the person. Ryusui initially treats his brother's programming as a resource to claim, then recognizes the fear and family pressure behind his withdrawal. Their renewed bond allows cooperation without requiring Sai Nanami to become the successor the Nanami family expected.

His clearest later change is the ability to relinquish prestige. Although piloting the lunar mission matches everything Ryusui desires, he argues that Stanley is the better candidate and supports that choice. He still wants the Moon and the achievement, but no longer assumes that wanting something entitles him to every role within it.

The surname Nanami is written 七海, combining the characters for “seven” and “sea.” The literal sense “seven seas” matches Ryusui's identity as a sailor and his ambition to reach every part of the world.

Ryūsui is written 龍水, using the characters for “dragon” and “water.” Dragon imagery recurs in projects and brands associated with him, including the drago currency. The reading suits movement, scale and command at sea, although no accessible creator statement confirms a detailed naming rationale.

The epithet “Greediest Man in the World” describes his limitless range of desires rather than simple miserliness. “Master Ryusui” reflects François's formal mode of address and the hierarchy of their pre-petrification household.

Ryusui's supplementary profile rates sailing, meteorology and desire at five out of five. The three maximum scores summarize his technical specialty and the temperament that drives it.

Supplementary profile data describes his preferred type as “everyone” and his treasure as “everything.” The answers reject exclusivity: Ryusui's greed expands to include every experience and person rather than identifying a single prized object.

The Kingdom of Science's paper currency is called the drago. Its name and imagery continue the dragon meaning of Ryusui's given name, while its value becomes a recurring contest among labor, scarcity and invention.

Ryusui's exact scale model helps guide construction of the Perseus. He is also proficient with balloons, airplanes, drones, Morse code and poker, extending his nautical expertise into several systems built around navigation and incomplete information.

Ryusui's animated introduction is the television special Dr. Stone: Ryusui, which bridges Dr. Stone: Stone Wars and Dr. Stone: New World. Ryōta Suzuki voices him in Japanese and Clifford Chapin in English. The special adapts his revival, the balloon expedition and the beginning of the Kingdom's maritime economy.

He remains a principal cast member through New World and Dr. Stone: Science Future. The anime adds vocal delivery, flight movement and extended visual staging but does not create a separate biography or canonical list of named techniques.

Ryusui appears in the official mobile game Dr. Stone Battle Craft and in promotional collaborations. Game abilities translate his leadership, money and navigation motifs into mechanics, but their move names and scenarios do not establish events in the main manga.

In Dr. Stone: 4D Science, Ryusui remains a senior leader during the time-machine project and directly challenges the surviving Medusa over its manipulation of the scientists. The continuation does not supply him with a new romance, personal transformation or separate final occupation.

Ryusui placed second in the 2019 Weekly Shonen Jump Japanese character poll, as reported by VIZ Media, and ninth in VIZ's corresponding English-language poll. In VIZ's September 2021 poll he ranked sixth, while Shueisha's later fourth poll placed him third overall with 2,390 votes.

Official and licensed character descriptions emphasize the apparent contradiction between greed and collective benefit. Ryusui demands ownership and payment, but his desire for ships, food, images and travel repeatedly creates industries or services used by the entire Kingdom of Science.

The decision to introduce him through a dedicated television special reflects his importance to the transition from local reconstruction to global exploration. Promotional campaigns and birthday artwork regularly present him as one of the franchise's central Kingdom of Science leaders.

His popularity varies by audience but remains consistently high after a comparatively late debut. The Japanese 2019 result placed him directly behind Senku, while later polls kept him within the upper group even as the cast expanded internationally.
