Ryouko Sakaki

Ryōko is gentle, composed and nurturing. She rarely becomes overwhelmed by the unusual personalities surrounding her at Polar Star and often responds to arguments or excitement with calm amusement.

She is nevertheless comfortable participating in the dormitory's parties and celebrations. Her mysterious fermented rice beverage is a recurring joke, with Sōma suspecting that what she describes innocently is effectively homemade sake.

Ryōko is supportive of her classmates and does not display the elitism common among some Tōtsuki students. She values the communal environment of Polar Star and works naturally alongside its other residents.

Ryōko specializes in fermentation, particularly the use of kōji. Her family background gives her extensive familiarity with fermented products, and she maintains a dedicated facility where she prepares ingredients for her cooking.

Fermentation allows her to manipulate flavor through processes that occur long before a dish reaches the stove. By controlling time and microbial activity, she can develop sweetness, umami and complex aromas that would be difficult to reproduce through ordinary seasoning.

She is also a capable all-around Tōtsuki student who survives the academy's demanding examinations despite receiving less competitive focus than several of her classmates.

Ryōko is introduced among the Polar Star residents shortly after Sōma Yukihira moves into the dormitory. Along with Yūki Yoshino and Megumi Tadokoro, she quickly becomes part of his regular social circle.

She participates in major academy activities alongside the rest of the 92nd Generation, including the training camp and Autumn Elections preliminaries. Her role often emphasizes the collective experience of Tōtsuki's students rather than individual Shokugeki rivalries.

Ryōko later stands with the Polar Star residents as Central threatens the dormitory and the independent culture surrounding it. She continues supporting the Rebel faction through the academy's internal conflict.

Yūki Yoshino is one of Ryōko's closest friends at Polar Star, and the two frequently appear together.

Megumi Tadokoro is another close friend and fellow resident with whom Ryōko practices cooking.

Sōma Yukihira becomes Ryōko's friend after moving into Polar Star.

Satoshi Isshiki, Shun Ibusaki, Zenji Marui, Shōji Satō and Daigo Aoki are fellow members of the tightly knit Polar Star community.

Fumio Daimidou is the dormitory warden responsible for Ryōko and the other residents.
