Fumio Daimidou

Fumio is blunt, intimidating and perfectly willing to turn away a student who fails her entrance test. Her standards reflect the independence expected of Polar Star residents: admission is not automatic simply because a student has been assigned to the dormitory.

Once someone earns a room, however, Fumio behaves much more like a guardian than a landlord. She tolerates the residents' eccentric behavior, celebrates their accomplishments and provides emotional support during difficult periods.

She is particularly nostalgic about Polar Star's strongest era, when several residents became prominent members of the Elite Ten. Stories about those students remain a source of both pride and frustration for her.

Fumio is an experienced cook with a sufficiently developed palate to judge applicants to Polar Star. Her entrance examination requires students to use available ingredients and produce a dish capable of satisfying her, giving her direct control over who joins the dormitory community.

She also possesses decades of knowledge about Tōtsuki and its former students. Her memories provide the younger residents with information about the extraordinary chefs who once lived in the same building, including figures who shaped Tōtsuki's recent culinary history.

Fumio first becomes important when Sōma Yukihira arrives at Polar Star Dormitory. She refuses to simply hand him a room and instead demands that he cook for her, establishing the dormitory's traditional admission requirement.

After accepting Sōma, she remains the adult authority overseeing the residence while its students undergo Tōtsuki's examinations and competitions. She also provides important context about the dormitory's past and its famous former residents.

During Central's attempt to eliminate independent research societies and reshape Tōtsuki, Polar Star itself comes under threat. Fumio remains firmly attached to the dormitory and the community built around it.

Sōma Yukihira earns Fumio's approval by passing her cooking test and becomes one of the residents she watches over.

Megumi Tadokoro, Yūki Yoshino, Ryōko Sakaki, Shun Ibusaki, Zenji Marui, Shōji Satō and Daigo Aoki are among the students living under Fumio's supervision.

Satoshi Isshiki is another Polar Star resident and one of its most accomplished students during Fumio's tenure.

Jōichirō Yukihira is one of the celebrated former residents Fumio remembers from an earlier generation.

Gin Dōjima also lived at Polar Star during its celebrated past and became one of Tōtsuki's most distinguished graduates.
