Rokusuke

Rokusuke follows the rough behavior expected within the Shuei gang and participates in intimidating Yahiko. His position is subordinate, however, and he does not possess the authority of the adults controlling the organization.

Like the other younger members surrounding Yahiko, Rokusuke reflects how the Shuei gang draws children into criminal activity and normalizes violence as part of their daily lives. The series gives him limited individual development, so his characterization is established principally through his participation in the group.

Rokusuke has no named fighting style or exceptional combat technique. He operates as a street-level gang member and relies on numbers and intimidation rather than the kind of martial skill demonstrated by the series' trained swordsmen.

His role is consequently social rather than martial. He belongs to the environment that Yahiko must confront before he can begin developing seriously as a practitioner of Kamiya Kasshin-ryuu.

Rokusuke appears during Yahiko's conflict with the Shuei gang. Yahiko has worked as a pickpocket to repay a debt imposed upon him, but his pride and growing desire to live differently put him increasingly at odds with the organization.

When Yahiko resists the gang's control, Rokusuke and the other members become part of the pressure exerted against him. Kenshin Himura and Kaoru Kamiya become involved, giving Yahiko an opportunity to leave his criminal circumstances behind and begin a new life at the Kamiya Dojo.

Rokusuke's importance remains confined to this early stage of Yahiko's development. He does not become one of Kenshin's recurring adversaries or allies.

Yahiko Myojin is connected to Rokusuke through the Shuei gang. Their association belongs to Yahiko's life as a pickpocket before he becomes a student at the Kamiya Dojo.

Ryuji and Genji are fellow members of the same gang environment and appear alongside Rokusuke during the conflict surrounding Yahiko.

Kenshin Himura intervenes in the Shuei gang's treatment of Yahiko, helping break the control the organization holds over him.

Kaoru Kamiya gives Yahiko a place at her dojo, providing the alternative life that allows him to leave people such as Rokusuke and the Shuei gang behind.
