Rick is loyal to Julius and takes the dignity of the Magic Knights seriously. Zora's deliberately disrespectful behavior toward the Wizard King immediately irritates him.

In combat, Rick is patient enough to serve as his team's reconnaissance specialist rather than rushing directly into battle. He observes opponents from concealment and reports useful information to his teammates before committing to an attack.

Rick uses Crystal Magic, generating and manipulating crystalline material.

Crystal Scope creates a magical observation device through which Rick can monitor distant opponents. During the Royal Knights Selection Exam, he uses it to track Team B and coordinate long-range attacks against their crystal.

He can also create a large crystal blade for direct offense. His combination of observation and attack magic makes him useful as both a scout and supporting combatant.

Rick competes in the Royal Knights Selection Exam on Team A with Curtis Warren and Forte Gris. Their first-round opponents are Asta, Mimosa, and Zora, who is competing under Xerx Lugner's identity.

Rick hides in the forest and uses Crystal Scope to track Team B, allowing Curtis and Forte to bombard the opposing crystal from long range. He even confirms that Zora appears to be sleeping rather than preparing an obvious attack.

When Asta and Mimosa advance, Rick joins his teammates in surrounding them and creates a large crystal blade. Zora's Trap Magic absorbs Team A's combined attack and reflects it back at greater power, eliminating them.

During the Elf Reincarnation crisis, Rick later joins a group led by Yuno that reaches Clover Castle and fights the possessed Golden Dawn members.

Curtis Warren and Forte Gris are Rick's teammates during the Royal Knights Selection Exam.

Zora Ideale irritates Rick through his disrespect toward the Wizard King and ultimately defeats Team A by reflecting their combined magic.

Julius Novachrono commands Rick's loyalty and respect as Wizard King.

Yuno later leads the group of Magic Knights with whom Rick helps fight the possessed Golden Dawn at Clover Castle.
