Richard Trevisick

Richard is seen primarily through Kaite's memories, limiting the amount of direct characterization available. His work and relationship with his son nevertheless establish him as a technically accomplished engineer whose life was closely connected to sand steamers.

The memories associated with him carry considerable emotional importance for Kaite, particularly because the Flourish survives as a tangible reminder of his father's work.

Richard is an ordinary human without supernatural abilities, but he is an accomplished engineer and sand-steamer designer.

His most significant achievement is the Flourish, an enormous land-going vessel capable of carrying large numbers of passengers and cargo across No Man's Land. Designing such a machine required substantial knowledge of the technology supporting planetary transportation.

Kaite's detailed familiarity with the Flourish reflects the technical environment in which Richard raised him.

Richard does not participate directly in the present-day Flourish hijacking. Instead, his history explains why Kaite knows enough about the sand steamer to become valuable to Brilliant Dynamites Neon and the Bad Lads.

Richard died before the principal Flourish storyline, leaving Kaite without his father. His gravestone in the 1998 anime identifies him by name, while flashbacks establish his connection to the vessel.

When the Flourish is placed in danger during Neon's robbery, Kaite ultimately uses the knowledge associated with his father's ship to help Vash save its passengers.

Kaite Trevisick is Richard's son. Richard's work on the Flourish gives Kaite the detailed knowledge that later becomes central to the Bad Lads incident.
