Raizo Mine

Raizo is proud, strong-willed, and serious about kendo. His old rivalry with Kenjuro retains a competitive edge, but the relationship also contains enough trust for their families to become closely connected.

He is understandably bewildered by many of the supernatural incidents that follow Yaiba into his household. Despite this, the Mine residence continues to provide Yaiba and his companions with a place to stay.

Raizo is also protective of Sayaka, particularly when Yaiba's adventures repeatedly place her in danger.

Raizo is an experienced kendo practitioner with substantial knowledge of swordsmanship and martial discipline.

His abilities are grounded in conventional martial arts rather than the magical sword techniques later employed by Yaiba and Onimaru. This places him above an ordinary civilian fighter without making him a match for the series' strongest supernatural combatants.

Raizo's reunion with Kenjuro provides the circumstances that bring Yaiba into the Mine household. Yaiba quickly becomes involved with Sayaka and local kendo rival Onimaru, transforming what begins as a domestic arrangement into a much larger adventure.

The Mine residence subsequently serves as an important recurring location. Yaiba and his companions return there between journeys, while Raizo remains connected to events through his daughter and his friendship with Kenjuro.

Sayaka Mine is Raizo's daughter, and he is protective of her as Yaiba's adventures become increasingly dangerous.

Shizuka Mine is Raizo's wife.

Kenjuro Kurogane is Raizo's longtime kendo rival and acquaintance.

Yaiba Kurogane stays at Raizo's home after arriving in Japan and becomes deeply involved with the Mine family.
