Princess Hibana

Hibana is domineering, proud and accustomed to making other people obey her. She treats many Company 5 personnel as servants and initially views kindness as weakness, having concluded that power and cruelty are necessary to survive.

Beneath that behavior is an exceptionally intelligent researcher. Hibana has been fascinated by chemistry since childhood and learned to alter the colors of her flames by manipulating chemical elements. Her analytical mind remains one of her greatest strengths, allowing her to understand pyrokinetic phenomena beyond simply using them in battle.

Her harsher worldview grew out of trauma. After the convent where she grew up was destroyed by spontaneous human combustion, Hibana lost her faith and came to regard flames as something ugly and destructive. Her relationship with Iris and later encounters with Shinra gradually challenge that conclusion.

Hibana is a Third Generation pyrokinetic whose Ignition Ability produces flower-shaped flames. Clematis generates large flaming blossoms, while Cherry Blossom creates smaller petals that can burn and cut targets. Cherry Blossom Snowstorm fills an area with these dangerous petals.

She can also manipulate ambient heat around a target. By raising a person's body temperature, Hibana can induce heat syncope, causing dizziness and loss of coordination before an opponent reaches her. This lets her disable multiple people without relying entirely on direct flame attacks.

Hibana's scientific knowledge substantially improves her effectiveness. She understands combustion, chemistry and the physiological effects of heat well enough to build strategies around an opponent's weaknesses. She openly admits, however, that she lacks the extensive hand-to-hand training possessed by more combat-focused captains.

Hibana initially clashes with Company 8 over the treatment and study of Infernals. Her Company 5 facilities conduct experiments on Infernal bodies, and Akitaru Ōbi's brigade objects to the secrecy surrounding her research.

Shinra Kusakabe eventually confronts Hibana personally. Their fight breaks through the superiority she projects over others and opens a path toward cooperation between Companies 5 and 8.

Hibana subsequently becomes one of Company 8's most valuable outside allies. Her scientific expertise helps investigate artificial Infernals, Adolla-related phenomena and unusual physical evidence. Her personal interest in Shinra also becomes a recurring part of their interactions, although she continues to express it through her characteristic pride.

Iris grew up alongside Hibana at the Holy Sol Temple convent. Hibana regards Iris with sisterly affection, and their shared childhood remains one of the strongest emotional connections in her life.

Shinra Kusakabe initially opposes Hibana but later earns her affection and support. Hibana becomes openly interested in him after their confrontation.

Akitaru Ōbi leads Company 8, which initially comes into conflict with Hibana's Company 5 before the brigades establish a cooperative relationship.

Konro Sagamiya becomes medically significant to Hibana's research because of his Tephrosis and experiences involving Adolla.

Kayoko Huang works with Hibana when examining Konro's injuries and unusual physical condition.

Tōru Kishiri is one of the Fire Soldiers serving under Hibana in Company 5.
